This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). So WoTC has cancelled minis

Quote from: MarionPoliquin;356270At this point, what I expect is either a) a complete redesign of the product line, b) the return of the D&D miniatures game + complete redesign of the product line or c) Heroscape minis will officially pull double duty from now on.

That pretty much covers all the bases. :)

I'd be surprised if the only way to get minis was via buying expensive Heroscape sets. I would not be surprised if they started selling dual-purpose Heroscape/D&D sets, although the basing issues would need to be worked out.

I think that Heroscape boosters are actually less expensive than DDM ones on a per figure basis.

Hm; I'm not a Heroscape player so I'm sure there's something I'm missing, but the price of boosters seems wildly variable. Amazon has these orcs for $14 (7 figures) but Warriors of Feldspar is $50. S'up with that?

Also, if you drop the rarity scheme you remove the reseller market that allows us to buy common singles for a buck apiece.

The MSRP for Streets of Shadow was supposed to be $14.99 for one Huge non-random and four randoms.

The MSRP for Heroscape boosters is $12.99 for approx. five to seven minis depending on the booster. Bigger miniatures come in larger expansion sets priced at $19.99. Overall, it seems less expensive, secondary market notwithstanding.

There will still be a secondary market for Heroscape minis, but I believe it will be different, with only the least desirable minis costing less than others.

You shouldn't buy Heroscape from Amazon is what's up with that. :)

What's the MSRP for Warriors of Feldspar? That being the one that costs a fortune on Amazon.

Can't find it on the official site, which probably means that it's sold out, which might explain the hefty price tag on Amazon.

That'd explain it. Weird; it came out in 2009.

Forgot to update. The next set will be Lords of Madness; it'll be a 60 figure random set coming out in September. 6 figures per box, with some figs being Huge, so I'm guessing that's the visible. It's advertised as containing both characters and monsters. Not really the best set I could have asked for, but the line's continuing.

There's also some sort of pricey set coming with a bunch of beholders, but I don't count that as a full set.

Benoist

Don't know if anyone else mentioned it here, but there's also a Beholder set in the making. Four figures for $35 US or some such.

Yup. This Fall:

The posted cancellations don't surprise me all that much. My own anecdotal contribution to the matter comes from observing my FLGS, which has loads of minis box sets that they can't move, even at a discount. Personally, I think the Heroes sets were a terrible error in judgement; showing the minis in a visible manner had to have hurt sales; three badly painted pastic figures just dont look worth the $10.99 asking price, and no one I know had bought them.

One other interesting bit of note: if you look at the D&D Essentials line up, each boxed set includes sheets of cardstock counters; two in the starter set, two in the DM's box set and 10 sheets of them in the Monsters box set. If these are similar to the pog-like counters in the last D&D starter set (released in October 2008) then what they're doing is essentially offering up cardstock counters in place of minis. This would certainly let 4E remain viable as a tactical grid-based system, while making up for (what seems to be) WotC moving away from plastic minis outside of Heroscape. Just a thought.

Define "serious".  How much would you pay, in $US, for a miniature you like and would probably use in your game?

It's because it's a hobby apart of the hobby, so to speak.

I certainly wouldn't pay $3.33 a mini.
