This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So what about it?

Who would you like to see take over D&D producing if Hasbro would sell out?

Consonant Dude

Your question is kind of confusing as you've put a bunch of companies, product identities and individuals in there.

If you mean, "who should acquire the brand name Dungeons & Dragons", then the obvious answer is Peter Adkison.

Gunslinger

Paizo.  They used to be the publishers of Dragon and Dungeon and have a number of people that work with WOTC as well.

I couldn't even begin to speculate on the answer-I don't even know who half those options are.

For my own personal benefit I would want to see either Goodman Games or Kenzer & Co get the gig.  I think those companies would produce a D&D that I would want to play.  For the overall benefit of the hobby, I think I agree with Gunslinger.  Paizo is the company most likely to move the ball forward successfully.

Either Paizo or Goodman Games, with the guys behind the Iron Kingdoms setting as a favored licensee.

Paizo or Goodman Games... or even Green Ronin! It would be very interesting to see who would go for it if the game came up for grabs.

Yea, my kneejerk was to vote sjg... but two main rpg lines is prolly a loser.

Edit: oh... Gygax too, just so he can soak up some of the profits from it for a while. I think he's earned it.

Okay, somebody else voted for Necromancer. Says so right there. Fess up!

What can I say? I like their 'feel'. And come on...who doesn't want the Wilderlands as core setting?

Damn right. Say what you will about him, it's sad that such a living legend is left almost penniless at this point. When asked what he thought about the recent complete edition of Jack Vance's works, he replied that he couldn't afford to buy it.  The publishers should have given him a free set as someone who did more to boost JV's sales than anyone. But I'm digressing...

FYI, the publishers of the Vance Integral edition were just a bunch of fans themselves. It was put together by the efforts of hundreds of volunteers, as a non-profit fan effort (still not cheap at $1,500). Not the same people who made money off earlier sales of JV books.

Gygax is probably the most important figure in RPG history. And its absolutely clear that his D&D, in its various forms, has been the most enduring of RPGs. But... He's getting on a bit, he has suffered some bouts of ill health, I'd quite like to see him have a fun retirement to be honest.

Who else is there... What about Frank Mentzer? Could he be baited out of his bakery by such a possibility? I dunno, he comes across as happy in what he's doing now.
