This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So, tell me about a game that will work for this idea?

SMITE (Specialized Magic, Intelligence, and Tactics for  Extermination)

Essentially, I wish to run a Fantasy SWAT Team game (I've run it using a system for one session, but I've been considering it at length and may want  to change for the following reasons)

I want a system I can publish this setting (and if possible, the rules INCLUDED) into a SMITE! Rulebook.

I need more magic than the current game is currently set up for.

What else do I need? It needs to have decent niche protection or spotlight time protection, BUT not so rigid that another character can't step in and do a semi-decent job of another person's role if pressed. Due to temporary reassignment (player can't be there that session.) Or temporary incapacitating injury.

Should have a flexible system at its core that makes fighting as interesting as magic.

Essentially I want a game that can do dungeon crawls, but can also make use of SWAT team style group tactical play. (At least in a flavor or small way)

Fate (the SRD for SotC is OGL -- how's that for acronym soup?) can do this with some tinkering.  So can ORE in the Reign incarnation pretty tidily (I believe there's an open variant of ORE -- Nemesis?).  So can d20 for that matter, though that might be more or less work depending on what you want out of the magic system.

The inevitable blog.

So far as I am aware Nemesis is not open; it's a free game, but the ORE itself isn't on an OGL.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

RPGPundit

I had something similar in a couple of my campaigns, with CSI: Port Blacksand.

It's free to use, adapt, and disseminate as long as you never charge for your work.  It's free for you to use provided it remains free for anyone else to use.

Ah, fair enough. Not quite the same as an OGL though - dunno whether the OP wanted to publish the thing for money or not.
