This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So, D&D's 2007 release schedule...

Quote from: GabrielRegarding the Rules Compendium...

This seems like exactly the kind of textual tap dancing I've seen for years from Palladium.  "It isn't a new edition, it's just Revised." or "It isn't a new edition, it's an Ultimate edition."  And in that case it's more or less a way to say that they're releasing a new edition without it actually being a new edition.

Plus, isn't the item description pretty much exactly the same kind of changes as 3.5 was?  (Absorbing erratta, combining in a few additions, etc.)

Well.. not really. This isn't a PHB. Not much content here at all. No spell lists, equipment or other stuff. This is definitely just a book of rules. It's kind of a
"Definitive guide to grapples and sunders" kind of thing.

Quote from: Abyssal MawOn Latin america: "I'm not sure, but ask Scott Rouse" (and he directed me to Scott but there was someone already talking to him). I'll ry and catch Scott tomorrow.

Thanks for asking! I hope you can get more information tomorrow.

Something I can't remember: does Wizards publish PDF-only products? If not, why?

Also, any news about d20 Modern? I know it's not D&D, but...

Hye Jong, the con is over and I'm already home, but I did catch Scott Rouse on Saturday night. He mentioned something about all Latin American WOTC translation and promotional stuff being done through a company called DeVir.

DeVir website: http://www.devir.com.br/rpg/index_13_eirpg.php

I also asked about D20 Modern and they could not tell me of any D20 Modern releases for 2007. I asked "Is D20 Modern going away?"
 And the answer was "no"

This was a splendid job you've done, AM.  Thanks so much!

RedFox

Yeah thanks, that was really cool!

And Pundit must be tickled.  :)

RPGPundit

I'm very tickled about being proven right about D&D "4e".

Not so tickled about their choices for Latinamerica... oh yeah, let's put the entire spanish-speaking world's products in the hands of a Brazilian, portuguese-speaking company.  Surely they won't end up being introspectively focused on the Brazilian market and totally utterly ignore the rest of latinamerica, right?

Ah, well. Just means there'll still be a market there for whenever FtA! gets published.

Devir translates D&D to Spanish, but they do it slower than to Portuguese (just check their releases). Also, and what's even worse, their "Latinamerican" website is a proxie of Spain's, and doesn't even sell online to Latin America. Meh!

RPGPundit

Yup, they're crap.  Not to mention that just reprinting the $30US hardcovers as-is, translated to spanish, is NOT a "latinamerican strategy", its a recipe for continued failure.

BTW, someone should tell WoTC that Devir cares way more about GURPS than they do D&D and give it way more attention in Brazil.  And why wouldn't they? GURPS is far more popular in Brazil than D&D, because you don't need dice you virtually can't buy in south america to play GURPS.

Sean Punch (Kromm) went to Brazil this past year for precisely that reason I believe.
There is something to be said for a game using dice that are easy to acquire.

RPGPundit

Yup. Games being marketed to third-world countries pretty well have to be; unless you're prepared to package games with dice included.
