This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So, D&D's 2007 release schedule...

Or even, what about a pair of Vecna gloves (where one glove is 'normal' and the other is skeletal), they could be marketed as giving Cold Resistance 10.

...and Vecna Sunglasses (one glaring red lens).

Heh.  Sounds like a good hall-costume for GenCon.

AM, I realize the focus is on D&D but is there anything in the way of d20 Modern support?  The '07 product list has absolutely nothing -- and while that probably already answers my question, I was hoping for something more official.

Thanks!

Now that we have answer on the 4th ed thing, I can pick up some of the new stuff. I'm really looking forward to their 2007 releases, I might play more D&D in 2007 than I have since AD&D 2nd.

Thanks for taking the time to do this Blog/Post/Report on the fly.

Oh yea if you can corner one of the mini guys ask him "Why the fuck do they not have a basic set of figures that represent the core classes." because it pisses me off to have to buy an entire goddamn case of figures to get a basic thief or fighter, well ask in a nicer way :) if you get the chance.

This bugs me, as well.  I know the answer is they want you to buy 30 boosters instead of one as you sift through 137 kobolds, but I would definitely shell out for a few archetype packs.

I know I haven't been checking in much. I have been gaming a lot:

Ok.

The Drizzt Scenario Pack:

Includes the gargantuan White Dragon "Icing Death". They have the proof in a glass case on display here, and it looks like a really nice sculpt- a little better than the blue dragon.

The scenario pack also contains  promotional figures of Drizzt, one other guy (some orc king? I forgot the name already), A two-sided map, and a scenario booklet. It also includes a promotional first chapter of the latest RA Salvatore novel.

I kinda just like the dragon, personally.

I have heard nothing on D20 Modern. I will ask!

Jong: I will ask! Latin America. It may be tomorrow before I have an answer. The R&D team has been very available- they've basically set up a little "ask us anything" booth. I had to charge my laptop back up today so I missed catching them today other than an informal chat with Chris Perkins about the Magic Item Compendium.

Oh, what else? I won a big stack of stuff. Every slot there's a lottery draw and one guy wins a big stack of stuff, and just now that was me. ;)

Quote from: Upper_Krust6. How about a d20 'Monster Manual' style bestiary based on the Dreamscape miniatures line?

I will ask this one. Please check back!

That sounds good. Latin America is pretty much virgin territory. It needs a different approach than North America, but I'm not the only one who thinks money can be made here (hell, the Spanish seem to be doing good biz in Argentina).

Regarding the Rules Compendium...

This seems like exactly the kind of textual tap dancing I've seen for years from Palladium.  "It isn't a new edition, it's just Revised." or "It isn't a new edition, it's an Ultimate edition."  And in that case it's more or less a way to say that they're releasing a new edition without it actually being a new edition.

Plus, isn't the item description pretty much exactly the same kind of changes as 3.5 was?  (Absorbing erratta, combining in a few additions, etc.)

QuoteOk, we're just about to hit 12:00, and we're bogged down in a discussion about how profitable it is to sell maps.

Apparently, not at all!

Could you elaborate? What makes it unprofitable?

Thanks...I appreciate what you're doing. Just don't forget to ask them about possible new/revised epic material in 2008. ;)

Ok, I have a few more answers:

I talked to Chris Perkins:

On Dreamscape "That's a cool idea, but we have nothing like that in the works"

On Latin america: "I'm not sure, but ask Scott Rouse" (and he directed me to Scott but there was someone already talking to him). I'll ry and catch Scott tomorrow.

On "How does the WOTC team keep up with current trends in gaming"

"We play everything- we keep up with everything from MMO's to German boardgames and we try to stay current with everything going on in gaming."

I showed him theRPGsite and told him I was passing along questions from you guys and they seemed positive. I asked him if they knew who the RPGPundit was.

"We know who the Pundit is. We keep track of all of the important things going on with gaming discussion on the internet."

I asked "Do you think he's a friend or foe?"

"Definitely a friend. Even when critics act like they're mad at us, or we get strong criticisms about certain products, we still consider alll our critics as fans, and we take them seriously."

That may have been a canned answer but it came across as sincere to me.

Any more questions? I may not get to many more. Tomorrow is the last day. I am trying to play the Open fiesta tonight (7pm-11pm, then the Xendrik Expedition special at midnight-4AM, and then, wake up at 8Am and play the City of Brass (unless I am dead).

I will ask about epic level support in 3.5.

I'll try and get some clarification on maps being unprofitable.

From what I heard offhand: "maps are just unprofitable because they cost so much to print at a usable size. We could do a "book of maps" but it wouldn't have much use- because the pages aren;t big enough to set minis down on. We could do a "map pack", but the price breakdown would be too much. It would be expensive and you wouldn't get very many maps. "

So right now, with maps, the best bet is Fantastic Locations, which are dual use miniatures and D&D products.

One guy suggested "well, if the cartography for the maps is already done, and the cost is all in printing, couldn't they do PDFs and let customers incur the printing costs?".

They are looking at expanding into electronic markets with something called the "digital Gaming Initiative", but most resoures are tied up right now with Magic Online, the Goblin game and other stuff.
