This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: rgrove0172;931054One of Robert E Howards Conan stories (the hall of thevdead) had a giant snail as the main monster.
That was an unfinished/unpublished story that was finished by L. Sprague de Camp. Is seems de Camp was responsible for the giant snail.

Quote from: Cave Bear;931037I haven't played Final Fantasy III in almost a decade... was that monster anything like Ymir from Final Fantasy VI?
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Ymir_(Final_Fantasy_VI)

In the sense that they alternated a more defensive mode with a more offensive mode between rounds, yes, but not quite as punitive as the VI version.

The basic mechanics of 4e made mode-switching monsters pretty straightforward and rewarding, but I should be able to recreate them in 5e with little effort.

Welp, I now, and I mean this seriously, have respect for the Flail Snail design concept.  I totally accept it as viable, and creepy, monster.

Technically your right of course.

Those are more like worms, with lamprey-like mouths. The CGI makes their movements look a little fake, though.

Any manga by Junji Ito is sure to give you the chills for sheer surreal weirdness and unsettling scenes. Also check out the 2000 Uzumaki movie.

Snails are delicious but the thought of "snail milk" churns my stomach.

It wouldn't make sense for it to be actual milk, so what the heck is it?

Numbing to the touch and very slippery; an excellent grease for the mill axle as well as alchemical raw material.

How about a substance that is horribly poisonous to most creatures the snails traditionally had to fend off, but alas, turned out to be delicious to whatever humanoids discovered and enslaved them in Pundit's city? Bonus RP points if it is a deadly poison to some player races but not others.

Switching gears, how about some inspiration?

Check out the mechanics of the snail-boss thing in the old SNES game Demon's Crest (at about 3:05 in the video):

Note the way it controls the flow of water in the chamber by blowing it in or out.
