This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I've known about the GURPS Jorune project for ages. I assumed a well-informed netizen like David R knew already. Sorry I didn't point it out to you, mate.

I try not to think about Jorune too much. I'm pretty sure I'll never get to play or run it, so thinking about it just makes me sad. :(

It would be nice to see Jorune come back into print again... with a new system in there of course.  That was the main weak point of the game if I remember correctly from my experience with it years ago.

Great setting though, amazing artwork that really helped you visualize everything about it.  Even the writing was pretty good.

RPG Haven choice.

Yeah I really didn't like the system and I'm not that critical of systems normally. GURPS seems like a good fit. Although I'm still working...okay someone else ... on a HQ now I suppose QW adaptation, a new edition would be most welcomed esp if I can get a campaign of the ground with as little work as possible on my end :D

JimBob, no takers for a Jorune campaign ? The next time I'm in Melbourne I'll run an old two parter - The Maustin Caji's Last Sigh* . I'm sure you can hustle up a couple of players for a couple of adventures.

*Much thanks to Salman Rushdie's The Moor's Last Sigh :D

Well... with my current group, I think they'd probably play whatever game I put before them. How much they'd get out of each different game is another matter, though. As I see it, the strengths of Jorune are that it's such an alien world, so it can be interesting to explore it. If you don't pay attention to the details, it just becomes a confusing fantasy world for you - the essence of the thing is in those details. And my current mob are just not interested in reading stuff, really. I didn't update the campaign wiki, and it was three weeks before even one player noticed! So detailed setting like Jorune, Harn or Tekumel will just fall flat with these guys.

Not that they're not interested in things overall, they're not passive idiots sitting back and saying, "entertain me, motherfucker!" - hell, last week a "moral dilemma" for one of the PCs led to about forty emails zipping back and forth in one day. They're very interested in "what to do?" but not so much interested in "what's it look like?" or similar questions. Whenever I give description trying to build atmosphere I get a "yeah, let's get on with the adventure!" vibe from 'em.

Anyway, it'd not be for them. Of course there are other players out there, but we're quite happy in our current campaign. In the end, I can only really run one campaign at once, so I choose the one I'm most sure will be successful.

Also, I would rather play Jorune than run it. Most gamers are more interested in playing than running things (I'm the only one in my current group willing to run a game of more than few sessions), and those in my town willing to run games are mostly offering only D&D with a pretty hacky style to it, not my thing.

That'd be awesome! I didn't know you came down here at all. And yes, there are all sorts of players about.

Necro'ed to post a link to the forum for the project, because the main page is somehow inactive even though the forums are alive, and the dude working on the project apparently put it aside for awhile but is now back on it.

Thanks for the link Elliot. I guess it's pretty obvious that I'm going to do some serious lurking on that forum.

Sorry, I just didn't have any off the top of my head, but I know that a search almost immediately taps you into the fan community (or several strands of fan communities).
