This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Small Press @ your FLGS

How many of you can actually find small press games at your FLGS?

Just to clarify what I mean by small press:

SJ,Hero, Green Ronin,Mongoose,Atlas, and other such mid-sized publishers don't count.

Just yesterday I went to The Source and not only do they have a "forgie" section, they have a small press section.

They had Coyote Trail,Active Exploits,Steampunk Musha, and one other PIG book. They have some Hinterwelt and a smattering of other small press RPGs.

This is sort of a new thing here locally. :haw:

If they order directly, please send them my email, Mike. Until I get my distribution straightened out, that'a how I have to work it.

Thanks!

The best thing to due is for you to contact them. You can send an email to Bob- bobsource@aol.com. Just tell him about your games, they are almost always willing to give a small publisher a shot. If he gives you any trouble let me know and I'll talk to Burl (the manager) and tell him order them.:D

I have yet to see what I would consider a small press game at any of the few stores I've been to in the last few years. At this point, I don't really shop at local game stores any more, mostly just the internet and the local Barnes and Noble if I can't wait for delivery.

of the two stores nearest me, one carries a small selection of small press- sometimes. The other store is a chain that sells all kinds of hobby stuff from model trains to billiards, and even though they have a huge rpg section, the selection therein is not good on mid tier publishers; as for small press, they have none, unless Goodman games counts.

I have a great FLGS, Attactix. It's located in Aurora, Colorado. (303-699-3349, 15107 E Hampden Ave, Aurora, CO 80014). They're great. They have tons of smaller stuff - and even some indie games!

I've heard good things about that place; I keep meaning to go, but I've never been out there- it's a bit of a drive. Black and Read in Westminster(also too far to drive on a regular basis) is also pretty good especially for old and used stuff.

Game Masters in Pittsburgh has a bookshelf full of small press stuff. I so want to buy all of the random fantasy RPGs on that shelf.

We don't have a real FLGS here in Grand Rapids-which kills me. I mean there is literally a million people in the greater GR-Holland area, and not a single FLGS. We have two comic book shops-one happens to sell used RPG materials, and we have the chain stores-Schulers, B&N, etc...Some of them sell RPG stuff, but no real venue for small press here right now.

At Pandemonium Books, they have a new shelf out that's try to have indie / forgish / small press / local authors stuff all in one shelf.

Really? That's cool. Pandemonium was always one of my favorite shops. They didn't have that around when I used to go there, but they did have a few more obscure titles than the other stores around.

You are better off calling and asking for Burl. He does their ordering. Have a short concise spiel about your games ready and your company as well.

When you look around you have to wonder,
Do you play to win or are you just a bad loser?

I sell directly and through distribution to Attactix. Heather used to be my contact but she moved on to work for Alliance. Generally, a good store to deal with.

FLGS carries small press, but indie stuff has to be special ordered because the owner doesn't think it sells well enough to stock.
"Meh."
