This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[Sla Industries] Hunter Sheets

Well another book for Sla Industries has been released... sort of.  There was a limited run of the book printed up and sold at a convention and on ebay (not as auctions but for retail cost) with a later full printing (probably after they get feedback on any mistakes and fix them) coming around June or July I bet.

Hunter Sheets issue one

It's been talked about on the slalist for years.  People were wondering if thing was going to see the light of day.  Well it finally has, I even have a copy in my hands.  I have to say I'm impressed.

All the artwork is done by one of the original Sla Industries creators, Dave Allsop, who also did some of the writing.  So it keeps a good feel throughout the book.  Layout design is done well and with some interesting looks.

The set up is also nice with the Hunter Sheet taking up one page, another page is extra info on why the person has a Hunter Sheet taken out on them.  Then in the back of the book is the stats for the person, any ally they have defending them, special abilities and equipment, along with an idea on how to work them into your game.

Chi'en Blood Magic.  Yeah it's in here and it's very gruesome.  Two thumbs up on this.  A Conflict War race is stated out also, called the Krell.  Once again a very well done book that has multiple uses and a wealth of ideas.

Looking forward to more Sla Industries books in the future.  Two releases in one year is almost to much to believe.

They seriously need to work on communication skills. I knew the book was going to ebay, but I had no idea that it was ONLY going to Ebay for now, or that it wasn't going to auction.

THIS IS IMPORTANT STUFF.

I, like many people, don't fucking like playing the goddamn auction game, and LIKE to buy from local stores when possible.  If I had KNOWN the fucking thing wasn't being released regularly, they might have had another sale.... not that they care if they sold out that print run....

It's not like I didn't read the thread about it. The 'press released' consisted of saying 'It's on Ebay'.  NOT very informative. I've a mind to head to team 8 and give them a peice of my mind... and it's weeks later!

Well this is just a limited release for now.  Same thing they did with Cannibal Sector 1.  Print up a small run and sell them to the die hard fans and get the feedback on things they may have missed or did wrong.  Then they fix those problems on the electronic file and run a full print run and put it on rpgnow.

CS1 is currently completely available in the UK and the slow boat to the US (literally a on a boat to the US) should be here anyday and then into the distribution chain.  That and it's on rpgnow also.

The full run of Hunter Sheets will be in June or July if things go well.  After that I'm sure we'll see another limited release for the next book to do the same thing.  Also it just wasn't on Ebay it was sold at a UK convention and through at least two shops over there.

I personally don't mind them taking this direction and it works to solve some problems.

I just want to know when the new edition is coming out with real workable mechanics.  As much as I love the core setting (ignoring the it's all a dream crap) the mechanics make me hate the game.  They don't support the fiction.  I've often thought about reworking it into some other system but fuck, it's work that I'm not feeling like doing.

In what ways don't the mechanics support the fiction? I just have the old rule book (worst. binding. evah) and most in-game fiction clearly represents the "big guns, big armor" credo the rules try to convey.

On that note, RPGNow must be run by the stupidest search engine ever. Searching for SLA industries, Hunter Sheets and a bunch of other things came up empty. Even going to Cannibal Sector 1 didn't link me over to Hunter Sheets.

Fuckers.  Why not sell me some useless fan PDF's about magic shoes instead of a full fucking book from a game that, while not famous exactly, at least has some years behind it?

Absolutely the worst binding ever I don't think mine survived the first read through.

The bad assituted of most things in the fiction.  Mutant pigs for example in the short story are pretty bad ass, mechanically most agents could drop them with a single shot.  Manchines, are also wimps, the cannibals etc...etc...etc....  They then go onto stat out their powered armour which compared to their high powered rifles, isn't all that effective.   There is just a fiction layer that the mechanics but up against and the two don't match.  I could still inspire fear in my players through good story telling and settings, but when it came down to it I was constantly having to flub my bad guys so that they all didn't drop on the first shot.

The other side of the mechanical issue is that the rules are just plain broken.  Skills that have no real use like martial arts vs unarmed combat (or whatever it was called) no mechanical difference - so what's the point.  I've seen house rules to change that but still that doesn't count.  Shot guns by the core rules completely useless.  Hell a Frother with a regular sword really isn't a threat to most things.  etc...etc...etc...

Love the setting, love everything about the world but mechanically it just doesn't work.  My simple solution is flip it to D20 or Harn since there are similarities to SLA.  My other thought is using Nemesis for the conversion cuz I think it'd fit the theme better.  The reality is I'll probably not bother with any of it.

This may be old news - but new for me.

RPG Now has the 1st edition of SLA Industries PDF up for free

SLA Industries

They also say they are going to be releasing the back catalogue for free, but I'm not sure what that actually means.
