I don't usually watch videos because they take a one to two minute read and string it out over a 15 to 20 min video. In other words IMO videos are an inefficient method of communication. But the title grabbed me and so against my better judgement I watched it. It is one of your better ones and I agree with it. The only real reason to give a charity shit is if they don't spend the money the way they said they would or if they use an unreasonable amount for overhead. When you are talking about a charity any "celebrity" that is involved should be there with his appearance as a donation. No one should ever pay a "celebrity" to appear for a charity, that defeats the whole point.

While I don't always succeed, I do always try very hard NOT to do what I've seen other youtube videos do and just repeat the same 2 minutes of information 10 times over to make a 20 minute video just because longer videos are rewarded by the algorithm.
It surprises me how even some very popular youtube channels do that and yet people keep watching (I'm looking at Tim Pool as the biggest of guilty parties here: that dude makes wonderful points in the first 1-2 minutes of his video, and then just keeps repeating that same point over and over again for the next 18 minutes).
You really need to start providing links to what you're talking about because otherwise you're just another voice in the wilderness demanding to be taken on faith, because I couldn't find shit to back up anything you said.

They are, and for exactly the same reasons modern websites are inefficient: It forces people to spend more time on site and watch more ads. At this point #YouTube will bury anything under 10 minutes. Best we can do is just listen at 2x speed.

You chide me for not providing links and then you agree with my statement of fact. I could have posted links to a lot of videos and podcasts, but all that would accomplish is picking fights with people for no apparent reason. Besides which I am not asking for anything to be taken on faith, because as you pointed out, in your agreement, I was just stating a well known fact. Which I followed with my opinion.

This part was clearly just my opinion and as such there are no links to post.

It amazes me how they can be popular, do people really have that much time to waste? I can think of another podcast person who does that and then spams many, many sites with links and to top it off he has a really irritating voice.
I would much rather just read a blog post and with a blog post I can scan it in seconds to see if it is even worth reading. A video or podcast you spend all that time and often it turns out there was nothing you were interested in. (To the peanut gallery, no I am not going to post links to what constitutes a hall of shame).
Greetings!
Well, there are indeed hordes of Youtubers, podcasts, and such throughout the internet to listen to and watch. I don't watch most of them, as many are stupid, and beyond that, I don't have hours and hours everyday to keep up on a dozen youtube and podcast people. So, I limit my attention to a few, say about half a dozen at the most.
One of the programs that I do watch regularly is Pundit. Why? Yes, whether Pundit presents a 20-minute chat, or a longer, two-hour show, Pundit is always great! He has low-budget presentations, certainly non-pretentious, and yet always interesting, enlightening, and with good humour. Even though Pundit is thousands of miles away, I typically feel like he is like a good friend, a fellow gamer, and a scholar that I get to meet up with down at the local bar and grill every week or so, to talk games, gaming, politics, and bit of history. Like Pundit, I also enjoy smoking a pipe, and excellent coffee. Pundit is warm, gracious, informative, entertaining, and funny. Pundit makes one of the best programs out there.

My videos are not "longer than they need to be", they're exactly as long as it takes me to say everything I have to say about a topic without repeating myself.
As for backing up my 'claims', you can:
a) take my word for it
or
b) Follow me on twitter, where the drama happens
or
c) look up the name of the charity I mentioned and the context of the D&D event I mentioned and the guests involved which I also mentioned and find all the confirmation
or
d) go fuck yourself.

*Laughs* Well said, Pundit!:D
As far as claiming that your videos are "longer than they need to be"--that's an easy solution to that problem--don't watch them. With any kind of product, art, service, or program, there are some elements of the market that won't like "X"--whatever it is.
What's the implication of "failing to provide any evidence to back up the claims made"? *Laughs* Well, geesus. The format and nature of the program is friendly and conversational--not some formalized, university debate. If you got together with some friends down at the bar and grill, sitting around smoking and talking politics, gaming, and assorted issues of the day, and looked at your friends and said, "Well, what is your evidence to back up these claims?" I can't imagine that being received well. In my mind it would seem obnoxious, pedantic, and even rude. Based on your relationship, prior history of knowing them, and so on, there's a level of genuine trust in your friend's accuracy and consistency.
After all this time, the same goes for Pundit. The insinuation is also acidic. If a person's faith in the basic merits and outlines of what Pundit is engaged in discussing is so low, it begs the question--why is someone like that listening to your video to begin with?
Certainly, some level of sourcing and attribution, where appropriate, is welcome, but it certainly isn't necessary or even desirable to somehow "footnote" or source every aspect of your commentary and discussion.
It makes me wonder why anyone that is hostile, dismissive, and skeptical would have the slightest interest in listening to your program, Pundit.
Semper Fidelis,

RPGPundit can take this feedback for what it is worth, front load your on topic stuff and save the Watchman rant stuff for the end.

Tim Pool (and Pundit really) aren't videos that you watch intently. You put them on in the car while you're driving to work or in the kitchen while you do the dishes. They are effectively a replacement for things like talk radio. Something to have on in the background.
But the reality of it is that Youtube's algorithm rewards certain types of videos. A 2-3 minute video that gets right to the point will be buried.

I won't disagree that my videos are something you can think of as radio. Though I hope a better kind of talk radio than the stuff Tim Pool puts out. Anyways, given that I have zero production values and the video part of my video has almost no action (except if one of my cats jumps into the shot), my videos can totally just be listened to while you're doing something else.
Here's the charity being discussed: it's Heifer International

Charity Navigator gave it 3 stars with 84% rating which is good.

RPGPundit, the next time some SJWS clowns cry there isn't a "Person of Color" present at one of these livestream events, you need to offer your assistance to attend as the token minority to ensure the virtue of the table! And if they turn you down, they're racist!

So instead of providing evidence, we get all sorts of reasons for not doing so.

So, the question becomes, why is Annon Adderlan lying? What is his deep motive for hating Pundit?
All these people that hate Pundit seem, deep down, to be swarmy, lying fucks.
I can always tell when someone seems to have a legitimate disagreement with Pundit on something or other. Then there's the screeching, sniveling, ideological rodents that just hate Pundit because of ideological reasons.
Semper Fidelis,

There's some people who hate me for ideological reasons. There's some people who hate me just because I'm successful and well-known in the hobby in spite of all their ill-wishes. There's some people who hate me because I showed them up in a discussion once. There's people who just hate me because I'm an asshole (an asshole who's right and successful in the hobby).
I hate you for your humility! And your excellent slow drip coffee! :D
And although hiring people based on skin color is actually illegal, reply to all these fine Twitter posts offering your services! I can only imagine how joyously they will receive you! As a stunning and brave Latinx, you can rescue them from their dilemma of whiteness.
Just charge double, as reparations.

Jesus, man. You don't really believe that, do you? I know you desperately, desperately
want to be a big-wig in the RPG world. To be a social media star. But c'mon. If I asked D&D players at my local store if they knew who the RPG Pundit is, how many would I have to ask before I found someone who had heard of you? 80? 100?
You're somewhat notorious among the small, small fraction of hobbyists who follow forum drama. That's it.
Your Youtube videos get maybe 1,000 hits. In today's booming hobby, that's fuck all. D&D unboxing videos get more views than that. There are dozens of more popular RPG content creators on Youtube alone. Even second-tier guys like Seth Skorkowsky have 50k+ subscribers. The quality of your videos - the picture, sound, editing - is strictly amateur hour. If you really want to make this your thing, to be a social media star, at least put an effort in. Get a decent camera. A good mic. Edit the content. Make some effort to organize your thoughts and be entertaining. There are dozens of Youtube channels and podcasts to use as examples. Because right now, your estimation of yourself far exceeds the quality and reach of your contributions to the hobby.

Quote"Share some solutions"???!! It's not rocket science. Hire people of colour! That's the solution!
As for fostering positive energy and lifting people up - guess what, they do that too! If you followed them and paid attention you would know that.

QuoteYour Youtube videos get maybe 1,000 hits.
My estimation of myself is that I'm living rent-free in the heads of hundreds of scumbags, and that I'm one of a very tiny group of people who make a living off RPGs.

Are you using "they" to refer to me? Is that supposed to be the royal we? Or do you think I'm one of the alphabet people?
In any case I never said my work is better than Tim Pool, I said that he keeps repeating himself over and over in his videos, while I don't in mine.

Most gamers don't even know who wrote their favorite games.
I was running L5R at a convention in the late 90s and John Wick dropped by to say hi (he was the con's guest of honor), and even though most of the table owned the L5R core book, they didn't know who John Wick was until he pointed out that he wrote the game we were playing. And I've regularly run into AD&D players who didn't know who Dave Arneson was or that there were co-creators involved in D&D.
I'm unsure exactly why, but RPG designers don't have the same style of fandom as authors.

Repetition is important though.
As the master of rhetoric, Aristotle, put it; "Tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them, then tell them what you told them."
It's the same reason oral histories involve repetitions; typically in threes; of the same ideas in order to make them stick in the audience's head.
Too many ideas at once without repetition to reinforce the core points will just lead to your audience tuning you out.
That's what the big YouTube personalities you're criticizing have learned to do; Tell what you'll tell them. Tell them. Tell them what you told them.

Because designing a game is not the same as writing a novel.
It's the same way that most people don't know who designed a computer game they like, and many people even don't know who was the producer (or sometimes director) of movies they liked, though they often will know the names of the actors.

Yes, that is very important at a certain level of learning. At others, not so much. You watch Jordan Peterson's post-fame videos and he's often repeating the same points from one to the other. Watch videos of his university lectures pre-fame and he doesn't.
But in any case, that's not why the Youtube people who do that are doing it. They're doing it because they discovered that the Youtube Algorithm rewards videos of a certain length, so making a video that isn't long enough gets less views.
