While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). I don't usually watch videos because they take a one to two minute read and string it out over a 15 to 20 min video. In other words IMO videos are an inefficient method of communication. But the title grabbed me and so against my better judgement I watched it. It is one of your better ones and I agree with it. The only real reason to give a charity shit is if they don't spend the money the way they said they would or if they use an unreasonable amount for overhead. When you are talking about a charity any "celebrity" that is involved should be there with his appearance as a donation. No one should ever pay a "celebrity" to appear for a charity, that defeats the whole point.

While I don't always succeed, I do always try very hard NOT to do what I've seen other youtube videos do and just repeat the same 2 minutes of information 10 times over to make a 20 minute video just because longer videos are rewarded by the algorithm.
It surprises me how even some very popular youtube channels do that and yet people keep watching (I'm looking at Tim Pool as the biggest of guilty parties here: that dude makes wonderful points in the first 1-2 minutes of his video, and then just keeps repeating that same point over and over again for the next 18 minutes).

You really need to start providing links to what you're talking about because otherwise you're just another voice in the wilderness demanding to be taken on faith, because I couldn't find shit to back up anything you said.

They are, and for exactly the same reasons modern websites are inefficient: It forces people to spend more time on site and watch more ads. At this point #YouTube will bury anything under 10 minutes. Best we can do is just listen at 2x speed.

You chide me for not providing links and then you agree with my statement of fact. I could have posted links to a lot of videos and podcasts, but all that would accomplish is picking fights with people for no apparent reason. Besides which I am not asking for anything to be taken on faith, because as you pointed out, in your agreement, I was just stating a well known fact. Which I followed with my opinion.

This part was clearly just my opinion and as such there are no links to post.

It amazes me how they can be popular, do people really have that much time to waste? I can think of another podcast person who does that and then spams many, many sites with links and to top it off he has a really irritating voice.

I would much rather just read a blog post and with a blog post I can scan it in seconds to see if it is even worth reading. A video or podcast you spend all that time and often it turns out there was nothing you were interested in. (To the peanut gallery, no I am not going to post links to what constitutes a hall of shame).

Greetings!

Well, there are indeed hordes of Youtubers, podcasts, and such throughout the internet to listen to and watch. I don't watch most of them, as many are stupid, and beyond that, I don't have hours and hours everyday to keep up on a dozen youtube and podcast people. So, I limit my attention to a few, say about half a dozen at the most.

One of the programs that I do watch regularly is Pundit. Why? Yes, whether Pundit presents a 20-minute chat, or a longer, two-hour show, Pundit is always great! He has low-budget presentations, certainly non-pretentious, and yet always interesting, enlightening, and with good humour. Even though Pundit is thousands of miles away, I typically feel like he is like a good friend, a fellow gamer, and a scholar that I get to meet up with down at the local bar and grill every week or so, to talk games, gaming, politics, and bit of history. Like Pundit, I also enjoy smoking a pipe, and excellent coffee. Pundit is warm, gracious, informative, entertaining, and funny. Pundit makes one of the best programs out there.

Or, you know, people could make content that has more material than just 30 seconds worth. My videos don't repeat themselves as a rule.

Yeah, seems downright nonsensical, don't it?

Maybe that's because I was chiding RPGPundit and not you.

I fail to see how this changes my point.

They are however all longer than they need to be, and fail to provide any evidence to back the claims made.

My videos are not "longer than they need to be", they're exactly as long as it takes me to say everything I have to say about a topic without repeating myself.

As for backing up my 'claims', you can:
a) take my word for it
or
b) Follow me on twitter, where the drama happens
or
c) look up the name of the charity I mentioned and the context of the D&D event I mentioned and the guests involved which I also mentioned and find all the confirmation
or
d) go fuck yourself.

Greetings!

*Laughs* Well said, Pundit!:D

As far as claiming that your videos are "longer than they need to be"--that's an easy solution to that problem--don't watch them. With any kind of product, art, service, or program, there are some elements of the market that won't like "X"--whatever it is.

What's the implication of "failing to provide any evidence to back up the claims made"? *Laughs* Well, geesus. The format and nature of the program is friendly and conversational--not some formalized, university debate. If you got together with some friends down at the bar and grill, sitting around smoking and talking politics, gaming, and assorted issues of the day, and looked at your friends and said, "Well, what is your evidence to back up these claims?" I can't imagine that being received well. In my mind it would seem obnoxious, pedantic, and even rude. Based on your relationship, prior history of knowing them, and so on, there's a level of genuine trust in your friend's accuracy and consistency.

After all this time, the same goes for Pundit. The insinuation is also acidic. If a person's faith in the basic merits and outlines of what Pundit is engaged in discussing is so low, it begs the question--why is someone like that listening to your video to begin with?

Certainly, some level of sourcing and attribution, where appropriate, is welcome, but it certainly isn't necessary or even desirable to somehow "footnote" or source every aspect of your commentary and discussion.

It makes me wonder why anyone that is hostile, dismissive, and skeptical would have the slightest interest in listening to your program, Pundit.
