This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Now there is someone who does not fuck around with his war games.

?? What's so impressive, I have a bigger pile of rpgs next to my bed than that lot, and of course the other 10 bankers boxes full, shelves, book case and overspill into the back bedroom....

I was referring to the bidders. They are not like the RPG wusses.

Didn't a set of original D&D go for more than double that on ebay recently?

I just looked and can't find the link though, so I could well have been hallucinating again.

I'm just glad I don't really have a fetish for wargames. In one of his rpg.net columns, Marcus of Titan Games talked about his best customer, nickname "Number One." Number One would buy wargames for $400 a month.

I once met two old wargames geezers at Essen, when there still was two or three SPI hoards.
They paid 1000 DM for a game they knew was unplayable, but well researched.

Sadly, I must confess I only came to this auction because I was planning to spend money on some of Chadwicks treasures...maybe I should not go that way.

But third world war looks so sweet!
And I actually played it, it was a BLAST (albeit tactical nuclear)!

7 hours to go, price is $2850.00.  i think that's past what the d&d auction finished at.

will this break 3K?

beeber

and with under 2 hours remaining, the 3K mark has been broached.

currently at $3100.62

those 62 cents, them's the bank-breakers

I noted a few unpunched SPI games in that lot. Those are getting scarser every day.
Employment Counselor: So what do you like to do outside of work?
Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.
EC: My cousin killed himself because of role-playing games.
OG: Jesus, what was he playing? Rifts?

aaand. . . done!

last minute rush brings the final price to $3456.76

arminius

I'm sure the bulk of the price is from those few SPI monsters, especially unpunched, the rest are going to be resold. And it's a lot easier to buy a lot like this, made up of items whose values are probably well established through previous auctions, and not feel like a chump, than dropping a couple G's on a single rarity.

beeber

true, it does seem to be a sensible buy.  wish i could plunk down 3K for gaming stuff!
