This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: GreentongueChange the nameless horrors to strange science.

My point is that the times are during near history (20'-40's) with events and technology thought "possible" for those times. (or at least imagined to be possible.)

Also covers alternate history where real inventions were introduced and accepted at the earliest possible time. (or existing inventions were pushed in different directions than accepted history.)

You get Planetary's secret world. If you haven't read it it be basically the same idea--dark experiments  lead to strange hidden things. You might also end up with Top Ten's world made by the "Science Heroes."

Space explored by giant gun launched vehicles, heat-ray guns (lasers) in the 30's (as sidearms), Tesla Death Rays as part of the arsenal of the Cold War, among other things.

Basically a form of semi-superheroic pulp. (Top Ten the 49'ers might be something you read albeit it ALSO has magic..)

Quote from: jhkimWell, in a broad sense, horror.

I've never heard the term "science horror" used before, though I can see it being used -- though I have heard the term "supernatural horror".  In my experience, horror involving aliens (i.e. The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers) and other scientific horrors is just called "horror".

According to some people, at least, Lovecraftian Horror is its own subgenre.

Quite, it's the horror genre.

Plain and simple, it's also pretty true to the original stories.
