This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Since PF is open gaming content.... let's create SJWfinder the RPG!!!

Quote from: myleftnut;1086837...and I live in Portland!   I haven't seen those people at cons or the game store.  I think people need to chill out about them because they're all online.  They're meaningless.

I left Portland some 5-6 years ago, was (emphasis on the was) personally friends with at least three clearly SJW-minded people outside of college (didn't even meet them in college, though two of them did attend at some point, and I'm sure it will surprise everyone that they took gender studies courses), and personally knew at least a half-dozen others. Maybe more. Well, probably more. Where I've moved I've encountered a few more at a gaming store, where I overheard a trio of people that looked like adults with dyed hair carrying stuffed animals talking about how one was genderfluid. Didn't interact personally, just overheard that bit of the conversation.

Good Lord...it feels like Portland is a real-life RPGnet/Onyx Path Forums.

After reading that post, I now know what it's like to envy the dead.

If there is ever a Second March To The Sea in this country's history, please let it happen to the West Coast.

Or at least just Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, and the Bay. I don't want anything bad to happen to decent people out west like kythri or my good friend Dumarest at RPG Pub.

So, what?  Now you'll admit these mutants exist at the largest game store and book store in the city (and this state, if not several others) ?

A "Trans-biracial human female, vegetarian half-orc, purple-haired Bard" (whose instrument is interpretive lesbian Elf dancing) will get more XP than the normal "Bi-curious white Cormyrian male fighter".

You're right.  They are there but they're easy to avoid.  I can't decide which of the three has the rudest staff or doucheest customers.  Hit up Portland Game Store or Red Castle.  As for Powell's, no one interacts with me when I'm there. Probably because I'm Hispanic and my jeans aren’t tight enough. :D

Red Castle is just as bad, if not worse, than Guardian.  At least, Guardian doesn't have inclusive-ally notifications plastered all over their front glass like Red Castle does.

Never been to Portland Game Store, but it looks relatively new, and the store shots on their webpage indicate it's not really the place for me.  I like stores that carry OOP stuff, and do buy/sell, so they have some modicum of OOP stuff due to that.  Red Castle's pickings were incredibly slim when I was up there 3-4 weeks ago, so I'm not going to go out of my way to visit the next time I'm there.

If I happen to be passing near while transiting to the variety of used paperback stores I visit while I'm there, I might divert and stop, but it's certainly not going to be a must-stop destination in the future.  At least Guardian has a small amount of turnover between visits.

As far as avoiding, well, the draw of larger game stores and used bookstores are what convince me to make the visit to see the family I've got up there.  Sad to say, but the family that chooses to live up there isn't enough of a draw to get me to drive up, so if I axe the game stores and bookstores, then I ain't driving to Portland.

Quote from: kythri;1086850...Guardian Games and at Powell's...

I only ever went to Guardian Games to get a new book and leave. I think I ran one of those in-store D&D events a couple of times. I suspect I just lucked out and never ran into them. But then I stopped going there entirely when I moved and Rainy Day Games was like a block away. One of the former SJW friends works at a Powell's. She tried to convince me that it's okay to discriminate against men (and that you definitely should), since men have had their way for hundreds of years. Doesn't matter what a man has actually done or believes: somewhere, at some point, someone did something bad to a woman, so every other man has to pay.

Don't forget to tax men for XP earned. And loot. Gotta make up for the alleged wage gap somehow!

Quote from: antiochcow;1087026Rainy Day Games

I liked Rainy Day Games, until they got rid of their used/OOP section.  When D&D Miniatures was still a thing, they were one of the best stores for that game.

I still stopped in occasionally, until Jan's Paperbacks moved from next door.

How'd we get 80+ posts into this thread without someone offering up...

The Banhammer
- Merely swinging it banishes the Unwoke from the Chamber of Echos
- Throw vs Virtue Signaling or the banishment is permanent.
The more clichéd my group plays their characters, the better. I don't want Deep Drama™ and Real Acting™ in the precious few hours away from my family and job. I want cheap thrills, constant action, involved-but-not-super-complex plots, and cheesy but lovable characters.

The Girdle of Sex Change is a trivial magic item, and in the best circles is considered a required fashion statement.
