This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Made sure that the update me if this file is updated feature worked this time (jic they update the quickstart again) and also grabbed the free Uncounted Worlds #1 fanzine.

7 adventures each 2-3 pages with a small map and 4 pregenerated characters.

  • 1st adventure is a 3 Musketeers romp. Pregens are swashbuckler (D’Artagnan), thief, musketeer and grenadier
  • 2nd a scifi crashlanding on a colony planet make it back to the base trek. Bear like alien colonist, human pilot, human scientist and a native alien guide
  • 3rd is a fantasy lost temple dungeoncrawl. Dwarf warrior, human wizard, halfling thief, elf hunter.
  • 4th is a get the princess, escape across the docking bay and flee the starport Star Wars Escape from the Death Star clone. Complete with bridge controls, Dark Legion Troopers and blast shields. Cheeky spacer, hairy alien mercenary, plucky princess and trainee interglactic knight.
  • 5th is a modern day bank heist. Robber boss, muscle / driver, police officer and other police officer. Best for 2 players or pitting PC cops vs. PC robbers.
  • 6th is WWII Normandy, attacking a farm house. Sarge, corporal, scout and medic. Saving Private Ryan BRP style.
  • 7th is a Gamma World or RIFTS type quest. Searching for healing supplies in a tower of the Ancients. Wolf mutant warrior, near human psychic, pure human scholar, near human mutant hunter.
I was rather surprised at the number, range and versatility of adventures in what's a free quickstart pdf. Yes these are barebones cliched stock situations and characters (though with some flair and cheek). I think that's the point, get playing right away with easy to grasp and easily expanded upon adventures while your group is learning the rules.

Finishes with an allosaurus and lion. Don't have the previous edition but these may just be teasers tacked on to fill up a page.

Are these new to the quickstart or excerpts from BRP core?

The fanzine is 52 pages with a good variety of use out of the box stuff for GMs (including lifepaths for BRP) and should be very useful esp. for free. I'd consider buying it if it became like Fight On! Knockspell or the like.

Quote from: The_Shadow;297049The new quickstart looks fantastic with a half-dozen mini-adventures in different genres. This would have blown my mind if someone had handed it to me as a 15-year old newbie. Hope it brings the word of BRP to a lot more folks!

Yes, this is worlds better than the slim BRP booklet Chaosium sold a few years ago. It's like bundling up 6+ Savage Worlds One Sheets complete with a map each along with the quickstart. More goodness like this please!

Now if Chaosium would only put out a Fantasy ( i.e Non Gloranthan) supplement  For BRP that would be most divine.
"Crom!", mutterd the Cimmerian. " Here is the grandfather of all parrots. He must be a thousand years old! Look at the evil wisdom of his eyes. What mysteries do you guard, Wise Devil?"

Over the years, the BRP engine has driven Stormbringer, Hawkmoon, Elf Quest and Fantasy World in Worlds of Wonder. All these are non-Gloranthan Fantasy games using the BRP engine.

There's also the Ashes To Ashes monograph... new for BRP... Dark Fantasy. I haven't read it though so can't make any testimonials...

Right on!:D  Good for you.  BRP brought me many years of enjoyment, from RuneQuest III to Elfquest, and many other Chaosium games.  It is one of the most elegant, simple, and robust system out there, IMHO.

I'm talking about something much more modular and  that's not entirely based on someone else's world. This is one   of the many reasons why D&D is so vastly popular as the  core rules ( Players, DM and Monster Guide) gives you all you need to run yoru own home brew campaign without ever looking at Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk or any other 3rd party game world. that's not even counting  stuff like the Complete fighter or the complete Magic User. Worlds of Wonder was maybe the closest of all of Chaosiums supplements of doing  just that, but it was  not close enough and the fact that it's been out of print for over 20 years isn't helping at all.

Stormbringer, Hawkmoon ,Pendragon are all great ( I'll pass on Elf Quest thank you) but if you don't  want to run  any of those settings, your kinda screwed

yeah, I hear what you are saying.  They really should have expanded the fantasy book of Worlds of Wonder into a generic fantasy game; i.e. something other than semi-historical fantasy Europe for RQ3, and Glorantha for RQ2.
