This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

If you listen to the gripers who will throw any insult at D&D that they think will stick, D&D. ;)

I've heard some Tri-Stat smack-talkers sing the praises of OVA (PDF Print ).
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

You mean it isn't still Mekton II and TFOS? :)

If Palladiumbooks does republish the Robotech RPG, then it will easily be the closest to a "mainstream" anime RPG.

OVA and RandomAnime are much too tiny in comparison.  Jovian Chronicles and Heavy Gear are just sort of floating in the ether.  And Mekton has apparrently thankfully been forgotten by Mike Pondsmith (at least we don't have to worry about a CPv3 style revision).

It's also kind of sad to note that R Tal had the license for a North American Gundam RPG and GoO had a license for a North American Evangelion RPG.  Neither one came about.  I wonder if it says something about the RPG market that both companies felt there weren't enough sales in two of the biggest names in all of anime?

Hey!  I made up a mech the other day.

Servos are pretty much all Medium Striker, except for the head which is HS.

Armor is 6 Torso, 7 Head, 5 on limbs.

Powerplant is standard.  It has hands.  Cockpit is in the head.  Sensors in the head.  Torso spaces are all filled with the thruster system.

In Gundamesque form, it has a hand carried beam saber (2H EMW, stored on the top of the flight backpack), and a Plasmagun.  The legs have 1 rocket launcher each.

Sadly, there's no escape pod and no frills.  I ran out of my 100 point allotment.

I made it up because I finally convinced someone to run Mecha versus Kaiju.  It was my first old school basic M2 suit in a while.  It was even quicker to write up than I remembered.

No shit!  :D

But I'll settle for the game to actually start so I can blow crap up and hack giant rubber monsters with a lightsaber.

I'd definatly use Mekton for it over True20 (I like True20 for what it is--but it lacks sufficient support for the mecha thing.).

I wish I still had a copy of Mekton II (and the technical manual, despite wanting simplicity of Mekton II I still like to tinker occasionally)

Actually there is still a rumor that Big Eyes Small Mouth 3rd edition will be released so even though it wont be from GOO it will still cover Anime in RPGS.

I have a Guardians of Order Fan Forum: http://www.goofanforums.com/  which is present for fans of the past GOO games.   I also have a forum for BESM 3rd edition so people can share any information they come across.    Feel free to stop by and check out the forum

(It was a plug but it wasw also applicable to the conversation)

I'm just getting into anime.  I have Speed Racer, the first 8 episodes of Cowboy Bebop and I'm in the process of borrowing Robotech from a friend.

Advice and suggestions on what to watch next is always welcome.  :)

RPGPundit

If BeSM continues with another company, which it certainly might, it will continue to be the industry standard for that genre.

If not, something else will come along. None of the competition out there right now come even close to being able to fulfill BeSM's position in this genre.

As a gamer, I took particular inspiration from Orphen, Full Metal Alchemist, and, of course, the ever-popular Ninja Scroll.  I'm not a hard-core anime fan, but I enjoyed all of those.

Only watch Dragonball Z if you enjoy where the antagonist spends the entire epsiode doling out percentages (to the thousandth decimal) of how much of his power he has used, why the attack from the previous episode did not phase him, and how unstoppable his next attack will be.  They average about 1 actual attack per show, I think. :p ;)

For some cheap laughs, you can go with the later episodes of Lupin III or his movies like Castle of Cagliostro.  I admire the hell out Inspector Zenigata--that dude never, ever gives up.  They throw him in a place where no one has ever escaped from, and does he give a rat's ass?  Hell, no, he's focused on arresting Lupin.
