This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Shadowrun 4th; opinions, anyone?

And that's cool. In the end what matters is you're having fun, right? All of my posts about Shadowrun are meaningless in the grand scheme of things as long as I'm having fun playing, and you're having fun.

That said:

QuoteIn their defense, the fans are constantly screaming for their next boiler-plated book. Nobody seems to want anything outside of the box (including me for now). I like all the changes SR4 has brought, and want my updates.

And I understand that they have to make money, and therefore listen to some of this. I mean they make the game because it's fun, but they also have to make money right?

QuoteAlso, according to Adam (I think it was him) Augmentation (aka Man and Machine for SR4) will have at least 75 things new to the game, as well as updates for older stuff.

I'm wary of updates, as they tend to just be recycled materials-which pisses me off to no end. (One because they can do better. Two because there a billion guys out there waiting in the wings to write updates.)

New stuff is cool-although if it's more cyber roller blades, peg legs or prehensile tails they can keep it.

QuoteFor out of the box stuff: they did that with Technomancers and got hammered by a lot of people. Emergence seems to have gone over well though, so maybe we'll see more stuff in that direction.

I have to stay mum here. I haven't read Emergence yet. So I'll get back to you eventually.

QuoteAll-in-all I prefer SR4 to SR3, except for the lack of material. The unification and streamlining of the game means that if I'm playing a mage, hacker, or gunbunny adept I don't have to learn three different systems anymore. SR3 was horrible about having what felt like completely different games slapped on top of a dice pool vs. TN system for all the disparate sections of the genre.

A lot of my friends were beta-testers for SR$, and they say the same. Having only read it and never played it I am going to say that I'll try to give it a fair chance-at some point. If nothing else because I support the game.

A quick "thanks," for all of those who've replied to my query.
I start from his boots and work my way up. It takes a good half a roll to encompass his jolly round belly alone. Soon, Father Christmas is completely wrapped in clingfilm. It is not quite so good as wrapping Roy but it is enjoyable nonetheless and is certainly a feather in my cap.

Augmentation is now available, by the way.

GM'ed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Editions off and on for over 14yrs. By the time 4th came out I was burned out. I love the Campaign Setting and the Ideas behind some of the Game Mechanics, but it always fell short.

I wanna play damn it.

Yeah, got my pdf yesterday, but probably won't sit down and read a lot of it until I get the print version.
