This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Sell me/Unsell Me on Star Trek Icons and Star Trek Advetures

The first rpg was the one from Last Unicorn the second is more recent from Modiphius Entertainment. No edition warring please. I am also not interested in Fasa Trek or Decipher or any other Trek rpgs. I'm not sure which to buy and want to hear both the good and bad about both rpgs.

Icons is a mess. Like the books borderline don't make any sense. They are gorgeous and the tone is spot on but when I was looking to run a trek game I just didn't want to spend the time making sense of the thing.

I heard the opposite that the Decipher version of Icons which was called Coda were poorly organized. Are you sure your not confusing the two?

Piestrio

Decipher is also very poorly organized. Admittedly, It's been a while since I ran my ST game but I remember thinking Icons was just too much work despite looking really cool.

I ended up using Coda and it was very much a "well, I guess this is the best I'll get" type decision. IMHO there isn't a really good out of the box Star Trek system.

Star Trek Adventures is a narrative 2d20 game. If you liked the narrative elements from Mutant Chronicles 3e, then you'll love them here. If you like old fashioned games with in-character immersion (or a GM that doesn't have to wait until players give him the points to spend to activate the bad guys' abilities), then give it a pass.

Icons did require some house rules to make it work. I did a lot of them back in the day, but I think all of the sites that had them are long silent.
