Title: Searching in Kickstarter
Post by: Aglondir on October 08, 2018, 11:22:10 PM
A while back I got an email for a Kickstarter project from a company I've previously backed. I can't recall the name, but I know it has something to do with a forest, and I'll know it when I see it. So I search on Kickstarter with the following parameters:

Which returns 1,861 projects, "sorted" as follows:

What? Fine, I'll just scroll until I find it. Scroll... and scroll... and scroll... nothing. So I open my email and do a search, and find the name: Tales of the Old Margreve: 5th Edition Forest Adventures (17 days to go)

Thankfully I can get there when I click the link in the email. But the Kickstarter search feature is hopeless. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

What if you want to browse? I'd like to check in once a week and see what's new. How do I do that if the search is messed up?

Sorting by Newest sorts the results according to the date when the Kickstarter began, not by how long it will still be up. You can also have them sorted by End Date.

I usually go to the Explore section, pick my category (Games), subcategory (Tabletop) and sorting criteria (Newest). This will turn up most tabletop RPGs as well, unless the Kickstarter hasn't been labeled properly by its author.

Projects you funded should be on your profile. You can also save projects if you want to keep an eye on them while you decide.

Kickstarter used to have a functional search but they removed it, as well as a whole lot of other things. At this point they're just a point of sale, and the only reason people use them is because they're popular. I dearly wish #BackerKit would just go the extra mile and start taking pledges directly.

If it is something you've backed, when you log in to Kickstarter.com (assuming PC), click the circle/globe thing in the upper right. There should be a list of BACKED PROJECTS and a View All link if it's more than a handful.

THANK YOU!

That's what I was doing wrong (end date, not newest)

Thanks, that is useful as well.

I've never bothered to search KS. Or use it at all, actually.
