This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Need some prep help

Does anyone know of a real world company looking at downloading human memories to computer? They don't have to be anywhere near a successful prototype.

I'm prepping for a game set in the modern world and want to keep as much of it true to life as possible.

Thanks!

Wikimedia Foundation? :D

Sorry, don't know of real companies who try to accomplish such a thing in the cyberpunky "rip off a poor guy to create an AI out of him" way.

When I write "TDE", I mean "The Dark Eye". Wanna know more? Way more?

You could riff on this.

A couple of years and the right investors with a couple of plot nudges, it's a full-blown corporation or governmental black ops research concern.  :D

It's not exactly downloading to computer, but it's bio baby.

Roger over at Story Games won the No Prize. He pointed me to Braintec. The PR on the front page juxtaposed with the call for testees ("Would you like a free trip to Oregon?") gives them just the right degree of creepiness. :)

Reimdall

Oh no!

It's horrible and perfect.  You couldn't design a better mockery site.

That's what I was thinking. I have no idea what that lady is holding in the picture above the call for testees, but it doesn't make me want to fly to Oregon.

She's holding an MESI implant. (Want to know more? Click here.)

Beware of any call for "testees"--it might be a typo. Also note, if you go there, they only provide dinner, but "it is also possible to use our kitchen to cook yourself."

Anyway, might want to look at the last link here, and then note this. You don't have to read Dutch to get the drift.
