This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Sure. But the battles aren't really "cataclysmic" unless you also face a chance of defeat, every single time. For instance, it's always good to remember in Nobilis that the powers of the Excrucian Warmains can directly reduce attributes and cancel out Gifts: the Auctoritas and Holy Fire won't protect you much if someone tears away your immortality while your Spirit has fallen to zero.

Quote from: C.W.RichesonOn the whole I like the concept but not the execution.  I want more nifty settings, and Scion doesn't include a setting - just a system and a general idea.  It also falls down, mechanically, in a few areas.

I have a review at RPG.net if anyone wants to know more: http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/12/12910.phtml
One would assume the setting is modern day, just add scions and stir to taste i guess. I don't really have a problem with that. I'm just concerned with the depth of options.

Quote from: Ian AbsentiaIt seems very rooted in popular media from a decade ago.  I still have a good sized handful of games from a decade ago that serve that very purpose, and you know what?  I don't play any of them.
Right on the nose.

From a distance I see nothing I couldn't do with OVA, Feng Shui or BESM except be crushed under the weight of another iteration of Exalted's Dice Pool that Walks as a Man.

EDIT:  Holy FUCK how could I have forgotten Matt Wagner's MAGE comic?  That would have been fun to play.

Sorry. I don't speak Mongolian. :p

Simply put, the abilities which make Warmains deadly to the Nobilis are the ones which allow them temporarily strip away all supernatural defences with a touch. They can beat gods to death with their bare hands. That is what the PCs should be facing, instead of mooks.

Bingo.  That's exactly where I got the idea that I mentioned above.  And why I thought back then that Exalted was going to be what Scion is now.

For what it's worth, maybe Scion could model MAGE pretty well if you jettison the usual WW setting, though I rather think that even that ship has sailed.
