This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

How would you stat out Carl Kolchak--the 74 one played by Darren McGavin, not the one from the remake which shall not be named--in your favorite system, or the system you would most likely use for one of his adventures?
Employment Counselor: So what do you like to do outside of work?
Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.
EC: My cousin killed himself because of role-playing games.
OG: Jesus, what was he playing? Rifts?

Oh jeez, this has me running for the Wayback Machine! I used to stay up late and watch The Night Stalker on TV, much to my Mom's annoyance.

Time to do some research...
"Meh."

I'll break out Principia Malefex tomorrow (after laundry) and get back to this thread.

Caesar Slaad

Wow... it's been a long time since I watch Night Stalker reruns, so I'm not sure my memory is clear enough to capture the nuances. But as I remember, not only was he pretty determined, he usually ended up being pretty handy at putting the kibosh on whatever mysterious beastie he uncovered.

As a starting point in Spycraft 2.0, I'd go with a Dedicated Journalist Sleuth, possibly picking up Scientist levels later on to represent some of this capability to take advantage of some of the knowledge he uncovered.
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

The Good Assyrian

Many moons ago in a fit of boredom I stated out Carl Kolchak for GURPS 3rd Ed.  It was based on the series (then running regularly on A&E I think), the old TV movies I had on VHS, and the novelizations.
