This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Savage Worlds: Lifepath Systems or more detailed Chargen

Anyone know of any SW titles that replace standard chargen with more of a Lifepath system?
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

Savage Rifts kinda-sorta does it. But there's a good question. A similar set of tables for Day After Ragnarok would be great!

I don't think I have, though it would fit Hellfrost like a glove, IMO:).

Ah well, just take a close enough lifepath system and run it, translating your gains to SW skills and edges. The Tianxia lifepath supplement is probably deliberately generic, in order to avoid upsetting any group plans, si it would probably be really easy to use it for any China-inspired setting;).

Hmm, yeah that sounds about right, although I don't see anyone selling it anymore.  As a Savage World product, it was probably far too interesting to live. :D

Oh well, Neo bless teh intarwebz.

Edit: Yeah, this is actually pretty cool.  Breaks things down into Childhood, Adolescence, Career phases, has specific tables for different races, different social classes.  This is great.

At some point will have to take this, slap together with Savage Rifts chargen, cross-pollinate with FGG40k chargen and make Savage 40k. :D

OK, now also wonder why this is no longer available:).

The various toolkits were eventually phased out when Pinnacle started doing their Companion books. Luckily you can still find them online in other places.

We should just create one with modifications based on genre-splat.

Madprofessor

In general, I wish more games had life-path char-gen as an option.

I'm actually working on a Savage Worlds home-brew right now. This might be something I give a good whack at.... Hmmm.

Thanks for the explanation:).
But it doesn't make it a decision I agree with, not unless the Companions have lifepaths themselves.

Yeah, me too;).

Sadly it doesn't. A lot of information had to be condensed or traded out for other stuff to fit into a single slim book. I've got the latest printing of the Fantasy Companion and it's got the following chapters:
1) Characters (Edges and races)
2) Gear (including info for sieges)
3) Arcana (deities and spells)
4) Treasure (magic items)
5) Bestiary

Quote from: AsenRG;927665Yeah, me too;).
Me three. I especially like how it helps players work up a backstory and flesh out a character. I know that can be hard for some of my players.

Well, no need to purchase it, then:). Thank you for the info.

Yeah, and we brought up the vlue of having connections to the setting several times lately, especially in the latest murderhobo thread;).

Heck you can create Savage Lifepaths as a standalone mini-supplement and just create a ton of them for each setting and genre. I think if done correctly this could be a pretty awesome product-tool by itself.

Of course it's all in the execution.

Greentongue

Could be that Market Research has determined, there is not enough market for it. Which is why there are not more of them.
