Well I have finally managed to achieve one of my gaming holy grails. Last night my group decided to play a Fallout universe campaign with Savage Worlds. We originally had planned to start a 5e game but I will be to broke to get the PHB for a while. We decides that rather than play 2nd edition or Castles and Crusades we would take a break from fantasy that way we could keep the game going and not get genre burnout when we finally start 5e.

Now I have never actually ran Savage Worlds before, anything I should know going in? Also are there any resources to do hexcrawling with the system? I feel like hexcrawling with random encounter tables will be a decent approximation of the travel system in 1 and 2. We are going to go ahead and use the Fallout Arkansas stuff I wrote up a while back, it needs fleshed out just a bit and then I can start on location write ups.

Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but Other Dust has a bunch of stuff in it that you might find useful. It's it's own game, but the actual game mechanics only take up a fraction of the book, the rest of it is guides for running an irradiated sandbox.

I strongly recommend you check out Savage Fallout.

Also, Dragonsfoot has a great section of Savage Worlds fanbooks.

Cool! Thanks for the info so far guys.

Well we are two sessions in so far and it has been a lot of fun. We are still getting the hang of Savage Worlds but it seems like a nifty system. The only thing I really don't like so far is the flat TN4 to hit in ranged combat barring modifiers and I am not a huge fan of the damage system. Even using the gritty damage system PCs are still pretty damn tough. Not particularly a bad thing just not what I picture for Fallout. Any body know of any other good hacks to the damage system?

Disable Soak rolls for a very deadly game.

Regarding TN4 for Shooting, the TN4 is assuming the shooter have no wounds, no fatigue, short range, broad daylight and the target is standing in the open. Make sure using the penalties if they apply and to use a phrase fitting for the setting; Duck and Cover!

Glad to hear you guys finally went for it! Do keep us updated. How does the setting look after all?

Ahh, I am pretty new to the rules and I am certain we haven't been doing a good job of keeping track of modifiers. I will give disabling soak a try after I see how combat goes when using all the modifiers and rules, we have already been using the gritty damage rules so that may turn out to be enough.

Ricewind I could post what I have so far to like dropbox or something if you wanted to look through. Right now I am taking things a bit at a time. I have a general overview of the central Arkansas area. A basic overview of each of the major settlements and the city of Little Rock fairly well fleshed out. Fair warning though as I am a bit disorganized and I type everything in notepad because I don't care for messing with word for stuff like this.

Well there it is so far, misspellings abound I'm sure. I tend to run my games off cuff, so my notes generally only outline things in enough detail to keep me on track and get my mind turning. I do plan to flesh everything a good bit further.

As it stands the players are focused on Little Rock for now so it has the most detail. They have wandered off to explore a site in the ruins that I had mostly prepared so I have been using my prep time to fill things out. Anything is subject to potential change of course and I plan on adding quite a few more locations.

None of my maps are included because they are hand drawn and I am without a scanner. At the moment I am looking for an easy way to impose a hex grid over a map of central Arkansas.

Sounds cool. I was running (and still have in my back pocket) a Fallout game using Mutant Future, set mainly in Nevada (north of the New Vegas area, east of the Fallout 1 + 2 area). One resource that I used quite regularly was actually a fanmade Rifts aid: A series of 8 'random looting crap" tables. After all, Fallout is all about ransacking random desk drawers and trash cans. ;)

(As an added bonus, I see that there's a "humourous encounters" table. Encounter #1 is the "Python Bridge of Death" thing, pretty clearly inspired by Fallout 2. So I think we can guess where the author's head was at.)

Thanks for the heads up, those random loot tables will come in handy.

Me? If so cool. I don't have one but I have thought about starting a blog for this campaign. Or just a gaming blog in general.

I've had daydreams of a Fallout inspired game, so I'm really interested to follow along if you do.
