Title: Savage Worlds Explorers Edition, what else should I get?
Post by: KrakaJak on September 10, 2007, 04:44:29 AM
So...what else is good for Savage Worlds?

I've got Explorer's Edition. I was thinking of getting Deadlands: Reloaded.

Is there something else I could get that is a better deal? Some awesome book available that totally rocks!

for those in the know...plaease share your wisdom!

If by "better deal" you mean "cheaper" then I'll have to scotch my recommendation of Solomon Kane, which looks like the best produced SW setting to date.

I've only flicked through Deadlands: Reloaded and it does look extremely cool. I just wish my friend who keeps threatening to run it would get his arse in gear as I'm currently rereading The Dark Tower series, and would love to play in a supernaturally themed western setting.

Sorry, not much help there.

- I like 50 Fathoms for a fresh take on fantasy.
- Tour of Darkness looks cool for military campaigns, although I haven't used it yet.
- Necessary Evil has some good stuff for running supers.
- Rippers looks nice, but I'd rather it have been set in the modern day. I'm probably going to steal ideas though and use them in my urban fantasy game.
- I personally didn't find too much useful in the Fantasy or Sci-fi toolkits, but lots of people rave about them.

Played a game of Deadlands: Reloaded at GenCon last year and it was a blast! Was on a cattle rustle that holed up in a canyon for the night (bad idea). Had to fight lots of zombies and other horrors. Much fun was had by all.

If you like cowboys + cthulu, then Deadlands: Reloaded would be a lot of fun.

I missed the boat on this one: What's the difference between SWEX and the previous edition?

It's in a smaller paperback format, reminiscent of Mongoose's pocket PHB.

Good God, I'll have to get one then. :D Heck, I might finally pick up Dead Lands while I'm at it since the core rules are so cheap now.

Yeah...it's missing some world specific info...like races and settings, but there is a write up for making your own.
