This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Going forward, it seems like publishers and creators are going to have to find different systems to use for their games. Aside from actually creating your own system, what options are out there? games that have free-to-use OGL/SRDs?

There is Open D6

but aside from that, I can't really think of any. Anyone know of others?

The System is the rules, they can't copyright those and any patent would have long expired IF granted. What they have is copyright over their IP, which isn't as vast as you might think, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, and a host of other races are public domain, same for many of the monsters, what you can't do is have Tiamat be a 5 headed Dragon because the 5 headed dragon IS their IP but Tiamat is mythology ergo public domain.

What you need is CC By SA fluff for monsters, races, etc.

We already have a world thanks to Estar and his wilderness.

Here is why this forum tends to be so stupid. Many people here think Joe Biden is "The Left", when he is actually Far Right and every US republican is just an idiot.

Lots of games have released under the WotC OGL v1.0a - Traveller, RuneQuest, Fudge, FATE, and others. These might have some difficulty if v1.0a is successfully de-authorized, but the developers intended to release them permanently and might do so again under a different open license. I've got a list here:

Looking over, it needs some editing and cleaning up, but it's a start. I think there are also updates as it hasn't been updated in many years.

My worry is about D6. I'm not sure if the actual owner of the IP is even around anymore, he sort of disappeared when the new WEG went under, releasing D6 under the OGL and then riding off into the sunset

I'd say it's fine.

The ogl in open d6 has nothing to do with wotc other than that the text or wording of the ogl belongs to them; not anything else about d6. I also hold that no change or update to wotc ogl 1.1 can have impact on shit put out under 1.0, or that they can do anything about you continuing to use the old ogl if you are using it for things they do not own.
