This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Caesar SlaadHeh... I was running a one-shot game at gencon with mostly new players. The players got ahold of the trade system, and they spent a good hour or two sidetracked from the main adventure plotting trade schemes and making dough.

I was sort of surprised that sort of appeal still persisted.

I ran a Classic Traveller campaign in '01 or so.  The players included a tax attorney and an entrepeneurial type.  They got ahold of the trade system and started ignoring all the adventure hooks.  We had two or three sessions of nothing but trade runs.  The third player in the group was pretty bored.  He just wanted to blast things with his space-shotgun.

The Darrians come from a Space:1999 episode (IMHO), and are therefore above all allegations of elf-dom.

..back to that solo roleplay ....

Galic got captured by the facility guards and put inside a van version of an Air/Raft.

Any suggestions on who and what he finds inside?

He had 2 handguns, 1 knife, a first-aid kit, pair of multi-viewer goggles, the clothes he was wearing when he was "arrested" /taken prisoner.

 At a Political Prison??
She has to have done MORE than that!!

Could she me one of these mysterious robo-sexuals? (whatever they are)

Also this is around the time that Prince Varrian is somewhere in the Marches  - but no one knows where he is.

Maybe she didn't perform for the prince in a way that he preferred ?

OK, she has been duped into supporting an anti-Imperial political group (think Code Pink or Move-On.org), probably with the help of some perfidious Zhodani.

Doesn't anyone do the merchant trader style campaigning anymore?

That's where you go from system to system filling your holds, buying and selling, etc.

I'm quite sure that Pundit's 2005/2006 Traveller campaign was of that style.

Well, I hope you introduced "complications" to their trade deals.

It's never as easy as it looks, y'know. :) Whether it be a sudden revolution that destroyed the need for whatever you just sunk your money into delivering, neo-luddites who are not interested in seeing you selling your wares, rival merchants*, or even a Deadspace (or other problem**) induced misjump en route...

*  - Think "the Traveller Adventure"
** - JTAS had a cool little adventure I ran once where the players get precipitated out of jumpspace unexpectedly in deep space and have to desperately salvage a fat trader that suffered a similar fate in order to make it home alive...

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

Yeah, and maybe she's not bright enough to figure out on her own that the 300 air/raft violations are a pre-text.  The prosecutor gets to look "tough on crime" by coming down on a flagrant repeat offender and imperial officials dispose of a high profile critic.

Wait a minute....

What the FuQ??

 Robo-Sexual ???!!

What would be the crime?

How is that political?
(Besides the Imperium usual discomfort with robots)

This needs a little discussing or might be an interesting tangent.

I'm sorry.  That was a joke line from Futurama's first episode.  Bender is worried about hanging out with Frye because he doesn't want anyone thinking they're robosexuals.

But given the Imperium's culturally based irrationality towards robots, I could see sex with an AI being a separate crime from building an AI, owning an AI, selling an AI, or any other of the standard AI crimes.  You know, to protect the children.

Keep going  Jeff, we're onto something here.

The relationship between "What is human"  and "How can you still BE human?"  and how that sometimes connects to A.I.s/Robots, Androids  and cyborgs  has become an accidental theme in my campaign.

Oh, the humanity question.
Now I really want to play SpaceMaster again. The sheer multitude of androids, replicants and transgenics made for some nice discussions and arguments.

Absolutely.

The old Spacemaster was brilliant in this aspect (and many others as well).

I really miss that. Not many other games really play up this angle, and it's a shame, it can lead to some very cool roleplaying.

What's wrong, Koltar, don't you watch Futurama?
He was making a joke!! You should feel bad :( :(

Just kidding :D - but even I got that one~!!!
