This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Er...yeah--that thread title should read "RPGs".  Never try to type anything directly after coming off a graveyard shift (If an admin can edit that so I look like slightly less of a halfwit...). (:o)  So how many folks here have purchased something (RPG or gaming-related) from lulu.com?  Were you satisfied with your purchase/quality of the printing?

Two of my favorite RPG purchases of all time have been from lulu.com--Cold Space and Risus Deluxe (possibly worth buying for the banana-pumpkin loaf recipe alone). Any others I should be aware of?

I haven't bought it yet, but I'm looking forward to getting Encounter Critical, and probably even the CD.
Running: Dogs of WAR - Beer & Pretzels & Bullets
Planning to Run: Godbound or Stars Without Number
Playing: Star Wars D20 Rev.

A lack of moderation doesn\'t mean saying every asshole thing that pops into your head.

Although I didn't order it directly from lulu.com, (I bought it at the IPR booth) my copy of The Shadow of Yesterday is from there originally.

I have not had a problem with it, the binding is good, no pages have fallen out, and the game is only worn from use.

Well, I know phil reed was doing some of his PODs through them. I bought the DMs Directory of Demiplanes. It was decent print quality, but I can't say I love the look of the book. It didn't have the fading and tone changes in pictures the way that many (crappy) PODs did a few years ago, but it did have that "glossy ink" look that sort of makes it look a little cheap.
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

I think  a lot of indie games are on lulu. IIRC, Clinton Nixon works there.

Lulu games I have are:

Star Cluster 2
Sorcerer
Cold City
Cold Space (I have the PDF version)

So far I like (in order) Cold Space the best, then SC2, Sorcerer, and finally Cold City.

Zachary The First

I haven't picked up Cold City yet--actually, I didn't know it was on lulu.

So you really didn't care for it, mcrow, or is that just relatve to the other titles you mentioned?

I got my copy of JAGS-2 from them!

It came out great.

Funny thing about Risus Deluxe.  S. John announced it like two days after I went to trouble of printing out and three-hole punching Risus, the Risus Companion, and The Big List of RPG Plots.  Had I procrastinated just a little longer he would have had a sale and I would have saved a couple hours wrangling with an ancient photocopier to turn single sided printouts into double sided pages.  I'm thinking I'll ask a net-savvy relative to buy me the Deluxe version or Encounter Critical for Christmas.  ECs probably the better choice because they'll be weirded out by the 'damaged' cover.

Neither of these are on Lulu. I'm not sure where that came from.

I keep my work and my games pretty separate in online forums, but, yep, I do work as a developer at Lulu. Some of my favorite stuff there:

Owl Hoot Trail available now at Pelgrane Press

well, I guess it isn't Lulu now that I check. It is definitely from a poor quality printer though. Thats not to say Lulu is bad, the quality of the books I have from Lulu are all good.

yeah, I'm not digging Cold City to much. It just seems to lack verve. Nothing terribly wrong with it though. In Cold Space you clearly see that the writers were really into the game and were enthusiastic about the concept. Cold City seems a bit uninspired, IMO. Add to that the concept is not overly interesting and my end result is ....blah.

Not a bad game by any stretch but it just didn't make me want to play it.

AGON is kicking my ass with awesome, and it's now available at Lulu.  I normally wait until I have, say, 3 games that I want to buy at once, then make my order with Lulu (to save on shipping).

I tried buying RISUS at Lulu (the normal version or whatver, the one that was $20 and not $35), but my order was cancelled because "the document was broken" or something. Looks like Johnny Ross never got around to fixing that version, and unfortunately I'm not interested in the Excessively Deluxe version (as I already had the Plots, Kringle, Ring of Thieves, etc). :(

Same thing happened here; I already had Kringle and the Companion, but I was flush with cash from a writing gig so I bought Excessively Deluxe anyway. :D It's really quite a nice book.

The same goes for Don't Rest Your Head, which I also bought a couple of months back. They're good, solid books, well printed and bound.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the other small press books I have were just printed by Lulu and then sold direct from the creator rather than through Lulu, as they're similarly printed & bound.

I don't think Sorcerer is actually a lulu title. If course, I could be wrong.

You could be right I may have been thinking of TSoY.

That sounds about right. I like Clinton's work, only the books always come out larger than they need to be, making the actual games smaller that than they look. Not that it's a bad thing, just seemingly misleading.
