SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

RPGPundit Declares Victory: TheRPGsite will thus obviously remain open

Saw that. Just confirmed to me I was making the right decision.
I was really just tired to pretend having some respect for the moderation over there, and all things considered, it's just a message boards on the fucking internet, a message boards I visit maybe once every full moon or something. So really, it wasn't that hard for me to decide I had enough of the moderation's self-importance. I fundamentally disagree with the way they handle their site. It was just time to say it.

Quote from: PaladinCA;413395Sorry you did that Benoist, but I respect your decision to do it.
Thanks. I like to be able to look at myself in a mirror.
Never been much for sucking the dicks of people I don't respect.

Quote from: PaladinCA;413395That's the kind of condescending attitude that I feel has no place in moderating a site. How is it win-win?

I generally don't have a problem with the moderation over there, but their attitude has always been "do as we say, not as we do, tough shit if you don't like it, and you're not allowed to talk about why you don't like it, either." I think they're just getting more transparent about that. Honestly, all of them seem on the verge of burnout all the time. I'm willing to bet that all banning announcements in Trouble Tickets will be locked at the first post before a year is out.

They're not professionals, they're forum moderators. I've seen much worse, moderation-wise. I've been on forums where people got away with posting illegal porn because the moderators simply didn't give a shit. I've been on forums where mods blatantly and constantly exercise personal vendettas ("I think you might do something against the rules at some point, so I'll just ban you now.") RPG.net is kind of heavy-handed, but that's about it.

I'm not into forum partisanship much, so if I want to see people calling each other asshole, I can just come over here.

ETA: Although if I had to put up with hordes of people desperately trying to word-game every single mod decision for dozens or hundreds of posts, every day, I'd probably go bugfuck insane too.

Can we get back to discussing how I won the war? I've been riled up about the Forge and it's crazy moon language since it opened. Now they finally bowed to the extreme pressure exerted by my will and dislike. Victory is mine!

Quote from: Simlasa;413398The consequences seem pretty... inconsequential. It's like a fly being shooed off of a pile of shit.
Pretty much my outlook on it, but mileages will vary, I guess.

Can somebody explain to me, an individual ignorant of the arcane and occult origins of this conflict, the specifics of Edwards' game philosophy? All the posts I have read in both threads seem to use an elusive short hand that the veterans of the conflict find transparent and explanatory but is about as clear as mud to me.  What was the specific idea the Forge and its founders were promoting  and how did they do so?
Yes, it\'s a typo; it\'s not worth re-registering over . . .

Benoist

Yeah back to the victory discussion. It's not really a full-on victory though, is it? I mean, there are still Swine out there. Pundit writes as much in his Victory Lap so... it's more like a battle's been won, but not the war.

Quote from: IceBlinkLuck;413384It could be I have a thicker skin, but it seemed like the moderators started out looking for people to ban in the rpg.net thread. One guy got jumped up and down on for 'implying people were ignorant.' I have read several threads on that site where people have been directly called an idiot and nothing was said. Also, Benoist's first posts seemed pretty reasonable.

Oh well, It was an ill-fitting suit when they dressed you up as Agent Provocateur, Benoist, but you had the last laugh by wearing it well.

Note of course that Luke Crane, who shat on everyone, was under no danger of banning.

+1, and that's the second time tonight!

I don't spend much time over there, there's simply too many discussions, both discussions I don't have the slightest interest in and just the sheer number of discussions - it's overwhelming. That's why I check in here more often, better overview and more asshole-calling.

And congratulation to everyone who won anything tonight, be it silly internet crusades or football/soccer games.

Luke gets away with a lot over there. I've never figured out why that is.

Another good example of a guy who always gets away with shit is Old Geezer, that guy must have some major shit on a few of the mods considering the amount of crap he gets away with on that forum pretty much everytime he posts.

Because he's a special friend.

As for the RPG Site remaining open:

What's sad is that he used to be really cool and actually contribute interesting stuff to discussions, but now he's down to "see my sig," "tits," and "you're doing it wrong because I gamed with Gygax." Maybe he just got really tired or something.

But yeah, as someone pointed out over there, the rules essentially don't apply to him anymore.

Quote from: PaladinCA;413395To have a little self-congratulatory dance on Benoist's grave was unnecessary and unprofessional. Just ban him and be done with it. I didn't like the smug tap dance on his grave.

That's the kind of shit I'm tired of by the mod team. So I called her on it.
Regular users also do that little grave-dancing trot on Trouble Tickets when a hated figure gets banned. Then again, RPGNet regulars seem to be the crowd who wub airport security checks, including the goons feeling up your junk. Okay, especially the goons feeling up your junk. That's just how they roll.
