SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

RPGPundit Declares Victory: TheRPGsite will thus obviously remain open

Dude, there is a multi-quote function.  Just sayin'. :)
"In a way, the Lands of Dream are far more brutal than the worlds of most mainstream games. All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

But I can't resist the lure of witnessing internet bad-asses like yourself! Do you wear your cape when you come to the rescue of therpgsite.com?

Sorry for the off topic post but,

Form the group wisely, make sure you share goals and means.
Set norms of table etiquette early on.
Encourage attentive participation and speed of play so the game will stay vibrant!
Allow that the group, milieu and system will from an organic symbiosis.
Most importantly, have fun exploring the possibilities!

Quote from: Sigmund;415386I certainly don't see it. Rattling the sabre might annoy some folks, but actually do harm? In what way?

Off the top of my head, it provokes people in a way that they can only be provoked because Pundit, as board owner, is doing it. Pundit can swear at people, so can you and I. But only Pundit can say "go ahead, make my day", or "if it weren't for my principles, I'd ban you". It contributes to a dynamic of people thumbing their noses at authority just because they resent the authority. Over on RPGnet, although the policy of banning people and locking threads is pretty bad in both principle and execution, it's made worse by the way that mods add their snide put-downs to their warnings and bannings. When Pundit makes a big show of not banning someone while making clear he could and would like to, it has a similar effect, up to and including making the "fight the power types" feel righteous and justified.

I like how the Beardman "chisels" each vowel out of hard granite.

He's Finnish, what do you expect? (By the way, I read once that the Finns were good baseball players, anyone know anything about that?)

Also, although I only barely recognize the Forge in his spin on it, he (Eero T.) is really one of the better guys in Forge/Story-Games parts. His writing is lucid, he doesn't stand out as either attacking non-Forge games or putting people down for not liking Forge games, he doesn't shy away from critiquing trends in his niche of the hobby (e.g. here), and he's even written some interesting things about old-school D&D.

At the bottom of each post there should be the buttons QUOTE and (to its right) another button which is the "Multi Quote" button. Click on the multi quote button for each post you want to quote - it should turn red.
Then Hit 'Post Reply' at the bottom of the whole thread and it should bring up the reply menu, with all the highlighted posts in there.

Or, you know, it reinforces the principles this site stands for and the fact that its owner stands by those principles even when he doesn't personally like it.

Factually, that's true. But if people just see that in action, it's reinforcement enough. Rhetorically, psychologically, socially, politically--whatever you want to call it--I think it still has a negative effect, basically resulting in digressions into drama and escalations of existing drama.

Also, while I'm threadcrapping anyway, my only other technical tip is that for just a few seconds after posting, you can Edit without it showing down the bottom of the post. Only works if you're quick, though.

And yeah, He-Man is great.

Unless you're Pundit, in which case you simply close a thread and delete your own howling errors, then claim the thread violates a long-standing TRPGS rule which you in fact just invented when you realised you were openly trashing your supposed commitment to free speech.

One Horse Town

So, to those people who feel 'hampered', where are you in the threads that are about games, rather than the industry, Pundit or the latest flamefest?

There's a thread for 1 line adventure ideas, Ghost Whistler's Genestone thread, Unsung Supplements, Unusual Superhero Campaigns for starters. Are you hampered from posting to these threads?
