Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

It's like if Joseph McCarthy played RPGs.

That makes sense, given that the Forge was like if Stalinist Russia played RPGs.

I'd say the Forge, and Edwards' whole G/N/S model is more like The Shining Path and/or Maoism, with Edwards himself being the Pol Pot of the movement, and the recent closure of the website and proclamation of "victory" being like the collapse of Khmer-Rouge held Cambodia and the disappearance of the remaining elements of the K-R into Laos.

It (the Forge) was never  bureaucratically gargantuan enough to merit a "Stalinist Russia" comparison.

However, I will readily compare Storygames to Socialist Realism in art.  Socialist art of the fUSSR and Red China (and elsewhere that the plague of Red Totalitarianism raised its ugly face) had Purpose.  It served to inform and inspire.  Period.  Broad, free-thinking interpretive art was banned, and equally, legitimate criticism of art from a subjective standpoint was discouraged.

Storygames/Forge-games deny the existence of RPGs for fun - they only exist to accomplish some form of misery tourism, examination of them beyond this was verboten, and like in the fUSSR, dissent is viewed (and we have Ron Edwards own words on this, I am not extrapolating hyperbole) as a mental disorder.

It is a sad truth that yes, in fact: In Story Games, the game and the designer play YOU.

Yeah, I said Cessna was a bad moderator. Funny how unlike Cessna the Pundit is.

For the record, although I think The Forge really was pretty awful because of the people in control, Story Games is (a) better (not that I visit there very often) and (b) the problems are because of some of the people who hang out there, not the administration.

Quote from: RPGPundit;414081What I did say was that people who were on this site for no other reason than to engage in a prolonged campaign to harass me and destabilize this site will get banned.

And who decides what's honest criticism and what's an attempt at harassment and destabilization? That's right - you.

If you were a paragon of virtue, it might be reasonable to conclude that you wouldn't let your personal feelings get in the way of your duties and decisions.

But, as we know, you're a hot-tempered fusspot.

As I said upthread, look at your calm, even-handed initial responses in this thread. Or, really, any one of several threads where you rush in, swinging ad hominems and cussing up a storm.

Or look at the most recent banning. I don't think it's any coincidence that it the person who got banned for stalking happened to be stalking your buddy. You can't spit here without hitting someone following someone else around for the purposes of saying nasty things, yet no one has been banned (to my recollection) for it until it happened to Koltar...

What I think it comes down to, however, is this: There's no difference to the site or what free speech exists here between getting huffy and threatening to ban people and getting huffy and actually banning them. Both are instances of you using your status to squelch what is being said.

Indeed. You called Pundit a bad moderator, and yet here you are doing it again. The important part being, you're able to be here to do it again. Pundit doesn't need to ban you (permanently anyway), and is actually better off not doing so. You prove his point (and mine) just by being here talking shit about him. Good job. Keep up the good work.

Is it happening that much? Is there un-moderated harassment happening regularly? Or maybe it's just that most people don't reach a level of persecution where they would call moderators for help?

The vibe I've had so far of therpgsite is that even people who aren't buddies with mods would get backed up in case of flagrant harassment.

I'm glad someone pointed me towards this thread.  It's a comedy gold mine.

Maybe not quite as funny as the Nisarg vs. Blue Rose engagement, but only because there's a palpable sense of gleeful trolling this time around, rather than a feeling that it's more believably serious.

Seanchai, if you don't like the rules here then why not fuck off somewhere else, better yet start your own forum and show us all how it's done.

There's popcorn for sale at the bar. It's seems to be getting a little quiet, though. Hey, it seems like the Forge isn't actually closing at all, just "restructuring".
