SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

RPGPundit Declares Victory: TheRPGsite will thus obviously remain open

Quote from: Sigmund;413606Just a real quick search turns up this, which kinda indicates Mike has internalized some things from the Forge.

(andante) So... doesn't that mean that Big Ron Edwards did win by having his memes take over the flagship of RPG?

Got me, couldn't care less really. Maybe that's why 4e has tanked so bad though, contrary to the popular spin.

Quote from: Sigmund;413598Are you really going to try and say that all internet humor has originated at those particular web sites?

90% of it.  The other 10% being The Onion.

YTMND, SomethingAwful, 4chan, EncyclopediaDramatica, etc, are all interrelated communities with a ton of crossover.

4chan/SA humor *is* internet humor.  It *is* the "mainstream" internet culture, for better or worse.  Otherwise I wouldn't be seeing references to that particular brand of humor in comedy shows on TV all the friggin' time.  It's kind of annoying, actually.
"In a way, the Lands of Dream are far more brutal than the worlds of most mainstream games. All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

Quote from: RPGPundit;413582Yes, because I deleted your INSANE choice of linking to fucking Stormfront, my position on free speech is "utter tripe".

You have the freedom here to talk about RPGs. Not to endlessly harass another user across multiple forums (like Cylonophile was doing), nor to promote a legally dubious neo-nazi website (like you were doing).

RPGPundit

I think the Cylonophile ban was a bad decision. His Koltar comments were asinine, 3rd grade shit, but as I observed it, his posting was primarily RPG-related discussion of arguable merit. I think trying to fight a one-sided nerd war against an indifferent poster is retarded behavior, but better dealt with by saying "shut the fuck up" and moving on than by threats of banning.

Banning a douchebag for being a douchebag is in my opinion much more damaging to theRPGsite than even if Cylon's bullshit were twice as bad as it was. I like having a site where I can call someone an asshole if I feel like it, and I think compared to, say, the Jackalope/Cavscout site disruption bans a while back, this was much more like an RPG.net ban and would not want to see it lead to a chilling effect on open discussion, even if indirectly.

So, speaking as a disinterested poster as regards Cylonophile in particular, I think it would be in the site's best interest to reconsider a ban like this.

So the rpgnet thread has resulted in two bans, three if you count Benoist. All by that irrascible asshole Darren. Pundit has banned a person in this thread. Now I ask, is Pundit and Darren the same person?

I kid, cause I love.

The modvise at rpgnet is tightening once again. Time for the jackboots to crush the dissenters.

Quote from: Koltar;413586Frank,
Thank you for a condensed version of past history.

A lot of what you wrote I and others were able to piece together based on the debates and discussions on here about the 'forge' and Ron Edwards.

What you said about 4th edition D&D may be the biggest problem or impact that Edwards and Forge-speak have had.

- Ed C.

No problem. As you can probably tell from the incoherent attacks it brought from Abyssal Maw, it was reasonably even handed.

By the way, can you give me the background on whatever the heck was going on with you and Cylonophile? I couldn't figure that one out at all.

-Frank
I wrote a game called After Sundown. You can Bittorrent it for free, or Buy it for a dollar. Either way.

Quote from: Cranewings;413541I don't think you can take anything away from him on that count.

Having been threatened with banning for saying he was a bad moderator, I disagree. It's easy to think he's the bees' knees when you're kissing his ass, but when you actually say things he doesn't like, the mask starts to slip and you begin to understand what actually motivates him.

I will grant you that the SA era humor has become much more prolific (it's pretty funny after all), but considering SA has only been around since '99, and although very popular, it's not the only humorous website on the internet, I'd be loathe to attribute it even 90%, and certainly not "pretty much all internet humor".

I agree with you kinda, but Cylon has harassed Ed remorselessly even when Ed wasn't even involved. Even when it didn't have anyting to do with RPGs. He was warned more than once. Criminy, get a clue Cylon.

I've said plenty of things he doesn't like - especially in private. Hasn't done me any harm.

Then again, i am the very picture of restraint, good manners and easy-goingness.
