This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

RPGPundit Declares Victory: TheRPGsite will thus obviously remain open

Quote from: Windjammer;413287Which is, incidentally, why no celebrations or congratulations are in order either. It's a lonesome party, where no one except the celebrant turned up. As Brian Gleichman once put it (and I paraphrase), 'If the RPGPundit didn't remind people of the Forge, it would have been forgotten sooner. He only serves to give them a stage presence that otherwise they'd have lost long ago.' It's hard to deny the truth of that.

Neeeeext!

A frequently used but ultimately failed argument.  I now have my rebuttal: If I had not constantly reminded people of the Forge, its defeat would never have been so absolute.

Quote from: Benoist;413288I agree. I think that's exactly what we've been seeing for the past few years. The argument has changed from the "RPGs could be profound if only they weren't RPGs" to "RPGs could be so much more Fun™ if only they weren't RPGs". That's my take, anyway.

Ah, you're talking about the Tyranny of Fun.  Yes, this is something that the Swine might latch onto.. but you know, I have trouble seeing it. There's not enough meat on the bones there, not enough for them to be pretentious about.

Quote from: RPGPundit;413268Just remember you fuckers, I'll be there to stop you too.  I'm not going anywhere. I won.

RPGPundit

Congrat!  You've reached a whole new level of delusion!!!  Woot!

You stopped nothing.  Indie games are now an established RPG niche with plenty of designers and plenty of fans.   They will continue being a niche.  Not a niche I care about, but certainly a niche far larger than the membership at your website.

And more importantly, the Indie gamers have developed a shared community.  RPGsite isn't a community.  It's a pissing hole for aging gamers.  It's only advantage over RPG.net is the lack of cocksmock moderators.   That's a huge advantage, but there is no community here.

Ron created a new division among the hobbyists, fragmenting the hobby into further alienated clumps and you only exist to scream like a nutjob in the divide.

And that's victory???

Apparently, "victory" doesn't mean what it used to mean.

BWA

Oh man, this is a great rant. Classic Pundit! Bravo! A true return to form.

I definitely agree that the Pundit character is somewhat bland without an adequate "enemy" to rail furiously against. But this, with the deliciousness of your foe's tears and the secret war and the smoking ruins? MASTERFUL.

Quote from: RPGPundit;413285Again, and yet, here you are.  On my (successful, still here) forum.

There is Darren, forced to cry at everyone about how I'm not important and they shouldn't care what I say, because they obviously do.

And even, there's Ron Edwards, claiming "victory" over a war that the Swine have ALWAYS tried to pretend was never happening (because they knew it didn't serve their purposes for people to think they were fighting a war to try to fundamentally change the roleplaying hobby forever). They were his words, not mine. He has admitted the war now, because he hasn't got any reason to hide anything now that he's finished.

Whether you've ever been to the Forge or not, you obviously have some serious issues with me. Which makes this a bad day for you. I am licking your delicious sweet whiny tears, bitch.

RPGPundit

Ha.  Oh man.  The guy who has fought a ficticious war for years with a guy he never met, and who likely never even had any idea, who has ranted and insulted a guy on the internet, built an entire cult of personality around his illusionary war against other people playing GAMES in a way he didn't like, tells ME I have issues?

Oh man, that's fucking rich.  Psychiatrists could write VOLUMES about your obsession with Ron Edwards, likely because you tried to submit your game to him years ago when you were still posting as Nisarg and he told you it sucked.

I have no tears at all.  I again, have never played any Forge games before.  The closest to an "indie" game you could say I played was Kobolds Ate My Baby.  That the Forge has closed affects me in no way shape or form.  I only ever interacted with GNS theory in a very basic way (that the phrases Narrativist, Simulationist and Gamist are decent general terms for braod styles of gaming, but I disagreed with what specifics of the theory I have read posted in other areas).

I just find the whole thing funny as much as I find it pathetic.

I guess it's related to Melan's tyranny of fun rant, though that's not directly what I had in mind. I see it more as an excuse to make RPGs be... something else. "Traditional RPGs aren't fun enough. Now, if we added this bit from video games, that bit from movies, it would be so much more fun! Which by the way is our original idea™ and what makes this game so much superior to anything that preceded it before." Something like that.

There's no such thing as "indie games".  Independently published games, sure, but who'd want to stop those? Many of my favorite rpgs are independently published, like RIFTS and Robotech.
Less facetiously, FtA! and Gnomemurdered.

You are using the wrong term, trying to claim that any game that is small-press published (because of course for some reason Forgers always try to pretend that Palladium doesn't count as creator-owned publishing) is somehow on your side of the ideological spectrum.  But that's just bullshit. THE ENTIRE RPG HOBBY (aside from D&D) is about independent publishing, and it has existed from DAY FUCKING ONE.  The Forge Swine can take no credit for that.

On the other hand, when you mean "indie" are you not actually counting games like FtA! or Starcluster or Two-Fisted Tales, and do you just actually mean "Pretentious piece of shit art-games that appeal to Swine"?
If so, I think you'll find that there haven't been that many of those kinds of games making any kind of a splash in the hobby lately.   I'm sure many have come out, but no one cares anymore.  That would translate to THE FORGE LOSING.

Aww. And yet here you are, at the pissing hole, about to be gang-buggered for being such a whiny little crybaby with your bitter impotent tears of rage.  I own you today, bitch!

Yes please, carry on telling everyone over and over again how irrelevant I am and how little I matter to you! Keep telling them in all of the multiple times and places that people bring me up! Make sure you don't falter in your duty to prove what a cunt you are at every occasion by stating something that is so fucking ironic its laughable while doing so in a way that makes it clear to all and sundry what an obsessed little prick you are.

Please, don't ever ever stop.  I feed on your impotent rage.

The OP could have used a "Currently smoking: ___________" line at the end for old time's sake; otherwise, classic Pundit.

Also, I agree with this guy:
Quote from: Windjammer;413287Which is, incidentally, why no celebrations or congratulations are in order either. It's a lonesome party, where no one except the celebrant turned up. In the end, the conflicts and wars around the Forge died down because nobody except a few tired old geezers thought them worth fighting. To quote Lee Sandlin:
Quote from: Lee Sandlin in 'Losing the War'War ends at the moment when peace permanently wins out. Not when the articles of surrender are signed or the last shot is fired, but when the last shout of a sidewalk battle fades, when the next generation starts to wonder whether the whole thing ever really happened. World War II ended as war always ends -- by trailing off into nothingness and doubt. Its final monument has never been seen by mortal eyes. It's a phantom image at the edge of a rumor: an unmarked grave in the depths of the South American jungle where a weird and decrepit old man, half forgotten by the world, at last entered the lists of oblivion.

The analogy is not perfect, since no analogies are, but this makes Pundit the Frank Woodruff Buckles of the Swine Wars. Congratulations, I guess. Try not to put too much strain on yourself, old guy.
Now with a Zine!

Ah, a challenger appears! Who will make more of a fool of themselves trying to tell the Pundit how irrelevant he is in a thread about him in a massively successful forum he started, on the day the people he's fought against for years officially crawl into a gutter to die?! Will it be Spinachat? Seanchai? Or some other rabid Pundit-hater wetting themselves with impotent rage at the Pundit getting what he wants yet again?
