SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

As long as it stays on the internet, then it's cool with me.

Also, in light of the love going around for TBP, the moderation is pretty lax on RPGnet compared to some other gaming forums I post on.  Not as lax as here, but relatively speaking, it's not all that bad.
"In a way, the Lands of Dream are far more brutal than the worlds of most mainstream games. All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

Quote from: Benoist;413443Constant bullshit from start to finish. RPGnet is the fucking dickhole of the internet, with 4chan and SomethingAwful right next to it. Which must mean the internet is hermaphrodite, has two assholes or something.

It's the Ouroboros of mutual assfucking/cock-gobbling.

Quote from: Benoist;413461Thicker skin than someone who instantly resorts to threats of bans, post edits and "mod voice" to get his point across, that's for sure!

I would agree that Pundit doesn't edit posts and uses threats of bans and the mod voice much, much, much, much, much less often that on TBP. But, again, I'm not sure that's because he actually has a thicker skin...

And yet those sites have accomplished far more creatively, culturally, and even in the public service realm than either theRPGsite or RPGnet.

You take the good along with the bad with those types of communities, but the ability for both ill and good are magnified.

It's not a popularity contest, from my side of the screen. What these sites participate to culture is trash. Gigabytes upon gigabytes of internet trash. Pure and simple.

You kids should really get the fuck of my lawn™, by the way. :D

So, the Internet, basically.

I don't really agree with that. There's a lot of trash on the internet, to be sure, but it'd be a fallacy, as popular a meme as it might be, to say that all the internet is a pile of trash. I don't believe so.

Tubgirl, goatse.cx and 2 girls 1 cup have contributed to the "creative culture" as well.  Not sure any of those qualify as public service, maybe Stile Project.

If 4Chan and Something Awful are considered as positive cultural contributions, then we should probably just wipe and start civilization over.

Yep, it's a matter of what people choose to look at... I can look at art, watch some Shakespeare, read some history... or I can go watch dogs fucking each other.
We get the internet we deserve.

Neither do I. I was just being a wiseass.

Form the group wisely, make sure you share goals and means.
Set norms of table etiquette early on.
Encourage attentive participation and speed of play so the game will stay vibrant!
Allow that the group, milieu and system will from an organic symbiosis.
Most importantly, have fun exploring the possibilities!
