This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

GW... I don't think you're a bad person, hell, I don't think you're even wrong on most of your posts... but really?

Quote from: Azure Lord;562671No, you halfwit, you said that RPG.net was not filled with leftists (or at least implied it by challenging that claim).  It is self-evidently so, as demonstrated with repeated forum dramagasms around pet liberal causes (feminism, racism, sexism, social justice, etc.).  When I retorted that RPG.net was clearly full of liberals (unless you're blind, willfully ignorant, or trolling), you changed your argument to WELL SO WHAT IF IT IS.

As I said, there's nothing wrong with it if you like fascistic, ban-happy hugboxes filled with people who won't shut the fuck up about their political hobbyhorses.  It is less pleasant when you realize you're dealing with a group of spineless, thin-skinned manchildren.

Now, if you be so kind as to stop blathering and drop this stupid tangent, it would be much appreciated.  As I recall, this thread is about Swine, not how terrible everyone on RPG.net is.

This wasn't even a clever sockpuppeting, BT.  We knew it was you from the moment you registered, but you were unable to contain yourself to the point that a number of posters without access to the tools the moderators have figured out it was you.  We're not going down that road again, and around here sockpuppeting is of course a bannable offense.

Quote from: The Butcher;562707I wouldn't be caught dead playing a misery-tourism storygame like Grey Ranks or Montségur 1244

In a probably vain attempt to re-rail this thread, can you explain why think Montsegur 1244 is "misery tourism"?  I'm a sucker for "realistic" medieval settings, but I don't know much about it.
D&D is becoming Self-Referential.  It is no longer Setting Referential, where it takes references outside of itself. It is becoming like Ouroboros in its self-gleaning for tropes, no longer attached, let alone needing outside context.

Quote from: The Butcher;562657I find the notion that people are "out to destroy the hobby" risible.

That being said, I do concur that nutjobs, be they left-wing or right-wing, hipsters or catpissmen, can and often do damage the hobby's image, and I think it's absolutely OK to mock these people. Mockery is a powerful and effective mechanism of social control.

But the notion of a "conspiracy", cultural Marxist (seriously? I thought we agreed that we were at war with [strike]Eurasia[/strike]Postmodernism) or otherwise, is tinfoil-hat material. It too smacks of paranoia borne of self-importance. Wake up, people. We're adults playing pretend with funny dice and wargamey rules. We don't command this sort of attention or importance.
I don't think they are "out to destroy the hobby", at least not directly. Those people have an ideology, a political agenda, and for those people, their political agenda is more important than gaming, that is, they find that gaming is a way to express their activism (whereas I think that games must be fun, period). If gaming is to suffer because of it, so be it, "social justice" is way more important.

Quote from: The Butcher;562806I don't get it.

These people used to be fond of complaining that non-whites don't get portrayed in RPG material.

Along comes Paizo and portrays non-white human characters in cultural milieus that seems at least superficially derivative of some African and Asian cultures (in the same vein that, say, the Forgotten Realms or Greyhawk are derivative of Medieval Europe); and people have the gall to be offended.

I'm willing to bet that, if you portrayed an Asian or African-looking character as a knight in full plate, they'd also be crying bloody murder about cultural imperialism or making a mockery of non-Western cultures by dressing non-whites in a typically European outfit, or somesuch.
No, quite the contrary, you hit the nail on the head with your comment. It's cultural marxism we have here, the white man will always be guilty, no matter what he does, whereas the rest (non-whites, feminist women, etc) are always innocent, beings of pure light.

Quote from: ProfessorCirnoWhile that describes some, I'm fairly certain it doesn't describe RPGsite, which is mostly made of "I don't literally murder black people ergo NOT A RACIST" types. That and literal fascists.

The difference between them and Stormfront is that Stormfront is honest about their racism. That's about it.
Literal fascists!

I only got to the second panel before I clawed my eyes out and ran backwards shrieking the lyrics to "When will I Be Famous" from Bros down the street clad only in a thin veneer of peanut butter. Some of those inflections are hard to get your tongue around!

Ah well, off to PC World to see do they stock braille keyboards I guess.

I feel you. I also feel the same way about the 5e threads. Any curiosity I once had has been beaten out of me by endless rounds of...well, pretty much what we've got going on right here (but with more references to "Mother May I", "building decks" and "THAC0").

For a discussion of, like, gaming, try:

Cyberpunk: What Advantage Sensory VR?

or

Alt-History Technothriller Shadowrun

Yes, I started them myself but they are both about actual gaming concepts and an RPG campaign. Might suit.

Montségur was the last stronghold of the Cathar heretics during the Albigensian Crusade. 1244 AD is the year Montségur was stormed and the last Cathars massacred.

Wolf, Richard

Quote from: Ladybird;562686The problem is that it's full of shitheads who won't fucking shut up and won't take anything less than complete, unquestioning acceptance of their cause; who will pick on minor, insignificant details and claim those prove that you're a terrible person; who will accuse you of vile things, and then accuse you of derailing when you ask what they're talking about; whose first presumption in an argument is "you are a terrible person and guilty of everything you have been accused of, because nobody ever uses accusations of -isms to further their own personal grudges"; who intentionally drive away people who don't agree with them enough.

Otherwise known as "the personal is political".  It's not so much that there is an agenda to destroy 'the hobby' as that there is now a very vocal minority of the population, very over-represented in nerd/geek circles, who have an ideology that pervades all aspects of their lives before everything else, and there is a tendency for everything they touch to turn to shit because it drives away 'normals'; which will be viewed as a 'victory' because they are terrible people anyway.
