This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

rpgNOW = not NOW enough

Maybe GMS didn't think of it, but a publisher can send out a comp copy of a free product. You don't need to register to DL a product that's already ordered, just to order it in the first place. It's a small hassle, but not a chore.

Quote from: Zachary The FirstI would like to take this opportunity to thank the good people at Your Games Now for providing hassle-free free downloads of select products. :)

Thanks for the tip, Zachary!  I had actually never been to that site and I found some cool stuff.  A lot of it was even free!  ;)

The point i'm making is that it shouldn't be this hassle to catch passing interest. Promo material should be as easy to access and find as humanly possible or it's failed in it's purpose.

On the other hand, the retail sites have a vested interest in getting you to register.  Takes a minute or two, and makes getting the free downloads a snap.

I don't doubt the site has. It's not them I care about (rpgnow is a horrible site imo).

[shrug]  Works fine for me.  I can find things easily, check out reviews, look at product descriptions, and get things with a couple of clicks.  YMMV.

You're welcome!  For the record, I do like RPGnow, and really dig their wide range of selection, but I think it's become a bit cluttered and messy.  YGN is a younger site, and I like the thinking of the folks behind it (as well as the really excellent companies they've been able to attract).

OneBookShelf is undergoing many growing pains currently. Things will get better with time, I believe.

You have more confidence in OBS than guys like Phil (Ronin Arts) and Joe (Expeditious Retreat Press). I have to say, more than I do as well.

This is like the 7th or 8th publisher I've heard say that!  Bummer!  What gives? :confused:

Well, as I see it, the main hurdle is one of communication between all parties involved. The second is one of unrealistic expectations that several publishers have (i.e., many individual publishers want their personal desires fulfilled, the needs and desires of others be damned). The first can be overcome, with work. The second isn't a problem with OBS, frankly*.

*With the caveat that OBS doesn't try to satsify all of those publishers. If this happens, it becomes an OBS problem because doing this thing is absolutely impossible (and, thus, accepting the burden of trying is welcoming certain failure).

Does anyone have much experience with Drivethrurpgs?  I downloaded the MRQ Arms & Equipment manual from them recently and it went pretty well.  I like not having to wait for Amazon to get things in stock and the price was right.   I'm curious if anyone has had any problems with them before I start downloading more stuff.

The merger with RPGnow has fixed most of the problems that I had with DTRPG (notably, the crippled DRM file protection and prices just a few dollars shy of physical product). That said, I haven't actually placed an order since well before the merger. To say nothing of after the merger. AFAIK, though, the actual download/transfer process is more stable than it has ever been before.

Thanks.  I'm one for one with them and I hate delayed gratification so I will probably download again in the future.
