This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Lets use this thread for all of the ideas we want to foist on the Pundit for his sweet new "Real-World" Magic Game!

Is this supposed to be an OSR answer to the World of Darkness and its ilk?

Part of me has always wanted to see a system kind of modeled off Cultist Simulator's rituals, where the lore, implement, and invocation all play a role in what happens when you cast a spell.

Hi Pundit,

Quick question: Are you considering to use "real" magical traditions and cults, or just use them as inspiration? Thank you!

Mad Tom

Hi Pundit,

So will this system be closer to D&D-based OSR like Lion & Dragon, i.e. using 6 stats and d20 resolution die? Or are you looking at something more like d100 or d6 resolution mechanic?

Personally I'd also love to see something informed by real/traditional magic(k)al systems, like John Dee, the Golden Dawn, Chaos Magick, etc.

And I'm guessing the magic system will be decidedly not Vancian?

I want it to be the system from Fantasy Wargaming, only done right. So, actually NOT the system from Fantasy Wargaming!

VisionStorm

The real question is: Will we be able to make crystal gazing New Agers and Fluff-Bunny Wiccans? *big think emoji*

World of Darkness is real-world?

I'd love to see something in I Ching. Tarot would be nice as well.

I was thinking the same thing. The book was the closest thing I'd seen in RPGs to some of the textbooks I had from the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. But man, what a bad RPG.

Is it just me that finds the term Real World Magic to be an oxymoron?

Only if you take it literally, I bet he means the same as his magic on Lion & Dragon, true to the way people from the time think it works.

So for IRL Magic this might mean: Crystals have power, Sound/Smell/Color have power, The rituals of the "Witches" of Real World work, same with the Wiccans, etc.

Maybe Spirit Cooking and other IRL stuff will be included as if it worked.

Here is why this forum tends to be so stupid. Many people here think Joe Biden is "The Left", when he is actually Far Right and every US republican is just an idiot.

I actually have come to really appreciate FW quite a bit. I am certain the game is actually extremely playable, it's just written in a way that makes it difficult to figure out. The next game I run is going to us FW just to see how it works.
