This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

RPG.net is down, I'll vent here...

Quote from: Bramha_BullI think I have that book somewhere.  My favorite though was the one put out by R Talsorian.

Ah - here's the link for the book.

Grubman,

Wushu's the best game ever -- for anyone. It's better than you are. It'll paint your house for you if you're only enlightened enough to understand it... anyone who has any criticism of WUSHU must be argued with until they die of boredom.

It is the only way.

He does seem to have a certain style about him...it seems like dissatisfaction with everything.

Quote from: GrimGentWell, "traditional" as defined by the OP does cover an awful lot of ground. Which suggestions did you have in mind?

Maybe that wasn't the best example, since the OP had trouble defining it, but I didn't see a lot of concern about coloring in the lines, so to speak, in the replies.

Not to mention the fact that you can actually discuss gaming and bison here without the moderators giving you warnings when things get a little heated.

Did you go into the kitchen and help with the chef's Creative Agenda? If not, you did it wrong. In order to be a Proactive Eater, you must be there helping with the meal. You can't just sit back and let some so called 'chef' define what you're eating. If you do, you'll end up having your pallet damaged.

People who just let others cook for them end up cooking stunted. They are on the same level as those who've been molested by sock puppets.

mrlost and I (who are friends IRL) share an in-joke about rpg.net.  It basically boils down to the fact that if you post a specific enquiry there,  you will either find your thread buried under hundreds of darling threads within hours with maybe 300 views and no replies, or you will get a two-page thread where everyone misses the whole fucking point of your initial post.

If you ask about how to handle action resolution in D20, you'll get posters talking about how Exalted uses Stunts, or how you should switch to WUSHU or...  if you're really lucky, the thread will devolve into a 30+ page flamewar about the merits of Attacks of Opportunity.

Fuck, I hate that.

Oh, and I agree about Kiero.

Wushu isn't bad - and it is a pretty universal system  - mainly because as CA stated, you make up your own stats.

(OT for a sec

There was a thread, or possibly just a post, about using Wushu for a WWII game which was pretty cool.  Your details determined whether it was realistic in style or more cinematic.

Ultimately it didn't work for me or mine though because getting into the proactive mindset required for Wushu was too much like hard work.  And we game for fun, not work.)

tBP's biggest problem in that respect is signal to noise.  For every good, and/or  interesting post, there are a zillion "me too's", "My games better than yours" and "Try current flavour of the month.  It's Curranty!"

QFT

I stopped coming up with post topics because they get buried so fast.

Then I pretty much stopped reading all the suggest me a system threads because they'd become filled with jackasses loudly and rudely insisting that their favorite game was a perfect fit, and anyone who didn't agree was a moron.

Finally, I stopped reading any thread with Kiero in it.  Mainly because he admits what he likes to do isn't really role-playing, and yet insists on stubbornly judging role-playing by his bizarre, unique standards anyways.

Absolutely. And it happens all over TBP. Even between their grognards. And when someone interjects to point out what the OP was actually about or actually asking, the best they could expect was a shrug and an 'I don't care', but more typically it was ignored or even shouted down. A waste of time, for sure.

Better not group hug, I think Zach already has a mancrush on me and I wouldn't want his wife to get jealous.  :D

Which is exactly why I, when I was still a regular there, wound up not really ever posting or even reading much RP Open.

And a lot of other people felt the same way, which is what led to the divide between RP Open, and the rest of the site.

Everyone likes to blame Tangency, but I blame RP Open for sucking ass.
