This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

RPG-inspired music

Lately someone on the internets mentioned the "Traveller" album by "The Lord Weird Slough Feg" (yes, a heavy metal album about the Traveller game/universe), and I was wondering whether there are any other songs inspired by RPGs or their respective universes...

And please, no comedy songs about D&D or tiny local bands...

Busta Rhymes mentions "dungeoning dragons" in one track of his.

Trivia: at least one The Lord Weird Slugh Feg album cover carries some awesome Erol Otus art.

I thought there was a band that played hardrock/metal based on fantasy role-playing. The name has slipped my mind @ the moment.

Well there's a horde of rock bands playing about fantasy material, sometimes even about established novels. Moorcock himself wrote songs for Hawkwind and Blue Öyster Cult. But songs about RPGs are not as common...

(Blind Guardian wrote a song about Dragonlance. That only counts half ;) )

(And yes, there's an Elric RPG and there's a Conan RPG. They still don't count. Don't be a dick)

The Yann Waters

There's a Finnish Tolkien-inspired band called Battlelore, originally from my home town... As it happens, I've LARPed with some of these folks.
Previously known by the name of "GrimGent".

There are a number of Dragonlance references in Nightwish lyrics, as well, especially on Wishmaster.

Holy SHIT what a cover.  That is Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch good.

I'm sure Manowar is responsible for most fantasy games, though they have not yet acknowledged their existance (to my knowledge.)

Pebbles and Marbles

There's that bit in Weezer's "In the Garage":

"I've got the Dungeon Master's Guide.
I've got a 12-sided die.
"

And...umm...yeah, I think that's about it for anything in my musical collection.

However, googling turns up this gem from Slipknot:

"Pentex sucks! pentex sucks!!
They drain the life force of my tribe
Pentex sucks!

Bonegnawers suck! bonegnawers suck!!
They roll around in garbage bins
All bonegnawers suck!!

(pentex is bleeding but night is falling)

The black hand sucks! the black hand sucks!!
Those wyrm-tainted bastard leeches
Black hand sucks!

If I had my way! if I had my way!
Id rend them all ripped and torn
All that sucks dies!!

(sweet smell bleeding glow is melting me)

I bring my klave into battle
Shifting into crinos - I slay wyrmfoe
Then I step sideways....

You cant see me, for I hide within the umbra
"

God, I'm actually embarrassed for someone I've never met.

Mirdautas Vras is written in the "black language of Mordor".

And this is the best metal album of 2006. I'm not kidding. It kicks ass.
