This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Imperator

My g/f games, plays console and PC games with me, board games, and she's beautiful. She's not into very long game sessions, though, and is less focused / obsessive than me when it comes to gaming. Which is great,I think.
My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

23 years... wow. I have only been married for two years now. Anyway, my wife plays, too, we actually met when looking for new groups when we both came into town to attend university.

Now that's a good story!

Good call!   Driving home from a game I have pondered at times that, actually, I could have been anywhere that night.  Sad thing is, there isn't anything I'd rather be doing than attending said game

The Butcher

Mrs. The Butcher is an avid fan of non-Euro boardgames and non-collectible card games, and very supportive of my own gaming proclivities. Also a budding geek interested in Star Trek, Star Wars and Marvel Comics.

She's always shown a vague interest on RPGs, but consistently and self-consciously evades several offers I've made, of both group and solo play. Maybe now that we've moved in together she might take me up on that solo game; if she doesn't, that's OK. I'm just glad I have a supportive wife.

Benoist

My congratulations to you and Mrs. the Butcher. All my wishes of happiness for a long, long time to come. :)

My GF always says that she doesn't have to worry about where I am on a Friday night, 'cuz I'm killing shit in some dungeon or derelict space craft. Or in front of the XBOX killing shit with my homies. She says that my hobby gives her peace of mind.

So I wonder if it is true, Pundit.

Congrats and a happy, long (gaming and non-gaming) relationship.

I've always thought there was something to that.  The group of guys we played with in college each one day showed up with their girlfriends, who later became their wives.  The gf's tried it out, saw it was a geekfest, and never played again.  But they also never gave us shit about playing all day long.  To us D&D was guys night out.  We were rude and crude in our humor, quoted guy movies during the game, and lied about our past sexual conquests.  It was geeky caveman night.  I think all the women rolled their eyes and said whatever, at least he isn't cheating on me like so-and-so's boyfriend.

I would love to think, that roleplayers are more faithful than everybody else, but I'm pretty sure, and in my experience, roleplayers are just as cheating as everybody else.

Except that as a social group they weigh more, wash less and talk about goblins, vampires and star trek. Could there be a link with their lack of extramarital activities?

You will find in general pop starts and sportsmen have lots of extramarital affairs and so on through politicians and doctors down to accountants and museum curators with geeky roleplayers somewhere down in the basement. I do not think this relates to the moral superiority of said groups but to  opportunity.

Quote from: RPGPundit;417239She used to be a rabid WoW-player; and she digs the concept of the RPG, but she can't handle the idea of playing for 7-hour stretches or on a weekly basis, its just too much for her.

My wife is very much like this. She loves MMOs and stuf like Dragon Age and Mass Effect, and she's a huge Batman fan, but she's had a stab at RPGs and it doesn't do it for her. She wants to have a go at MMO-based games, such as the Dragon Age game and maybe some WFRP, but that's just because she knows and likes the settings. She's also cool with me gaming twice a week, which is a bonus.

So, yeah, full props to my wife.

Happily married for 11 years.  When we started dating, she had no idea what gaming was... now, she occasionally DMs old-school Dungeons and Dragons games, she's in my Serenity and Shadowrun weekly games, and plays in our twice-monthly Battletech Campaign.  This last she occasionally wears in-character garb for (as many of us do), and she surprised us all by winning our unit tournament once last year.

Serenity's her favorite game, but she also loves D&D, Shadowrun, FASERIP - Marvel Superheroes, and all forms of Munchkin.  Just don't ask her to play Castle Ravenloft (AGAIN?!?!) for a good month or two.

The Royal Dragoon Guards (our gaming club) is blessed with an abundance of gamer girls, all of which have been snatched off the market by this time.  It makes all sorts of games possible (but sadly, makes Pendragon really difficult to do...).  Hell, one of the girls in the RDG is taken by another girl who's on deployment...

My impression has been that male gamers seem to span about the same weight range as the general population--higher than at the college I work at, sure, but about what I see when I'm out and about anywhere that's not super-wealthy. Haven't noticed a washing problem at the cons I've been at but I haven't been to one of the really huge ones yet. Conversation topics tend to center around RPG game systems pros and cons (I imagine this would be toned down if I weren't a known gamer), movies (granted, not chick flicks, thank GOD), humor, music, books (mostly FSF--yay!), ancient history (triple yay!), technology, politics, occasional sports but not the overwhelming droning you get from non-gamer-guys, and jobs.

Gamers do often seem to be very rule-oriented, which certainly seems to translate to self-policing in the sexual arena at cons. I often can't talk to anyone for very long before one of the guy's friends walks by and rather loudly announces that I am married. (And the vibe is generally not flirtatious, so I find that rather annoying.) I wouldn't be surprised if the rule-orientation led to a lower cheating rate, but I also wouldn't be that surprised if the rate was the same as the general population. I would imagine that getting social needs met at home and with the gaming group might make one less likely to stray as well. (I *have*experienced rather heavy-handed flirtation from several single gamers so the rule-orientation may not be strong enough to dissuade those who ain't gettin any.)
