This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Rpg(ing)-wives/girlfriends/SOs

It seems that most of the rpgsite regulars are adults (even if they don’t always act that way) and there seem to a lot of significant others out there, destroying the ol’ meme from when I started to play, that gamers couldn’t have girlfriends.

My wife is also a role player, puts up with my ever growing collection of rpg books, and plays in the campaign I run when her work schedule allows it. Recently I was browsing the net and came across the new limited hardback edition of Masks of Nyarlathotep and let out a sigh, ‘cause it’s a bit pricy especially with Chaosiums over the top shipping rates for Europe. My wife overheard and promptly asked whether the book would make a good Christmas present. I told her it would make a perfect gift, and if I’m not much mistaken, the book is on its way now :)

This is just to throw props to my lovely wife, and to hear how your SOs reacts to the role playing thing? Do they play? Know what books you like and games you play and shop for birthdays at Noble Knight/Troll & Toad? Or are they completely indifferent to the whole rpg-thing?

My wife doesn't play but she has in the past and she loves game night. She has always had a soft spot for geeks and game night is geekhood distilled.

Drohem

My wife doesn't play, although she does give gaming related presents.  Over the years, she has given me RPG books and dice as presents.  She tried getting into gaming when we first started dating, but it wasn't for her.

flyingmice

My wife and son both play, though he's off in florida getting his masters in Game design at the moment.

My lady games.

Her top-of-list settings: Changeling, Werewolf, Dark Sun, 40K

Her top-of-list systems: D&D 3.5 (4e leaves her a bit cold), The Exchange (which is mine; she might be biased there), and Dogs in the Vineyard.

RPGPundit

The Wench is not really a roleplayer. She has played a few one-shots. She played a couple of Doctor Who one-shots when I was one of the playtesters for that game, and later when I got a free copy of that game and ran a couple of sessions. She's also played FtA! when I ran it a few times during a previous Canada Tour.

She used to be a rabid WoW-player; and she digs the concept of the RPG, but she can't handle the idea of playing for 7-hour stretches or on a weekly basis, its just too much for her.

Insufficient Metal

Gee, I miss the days when a thread like this would send Jackalope into paroxysms of misogynist fury and he'd drone on for pages and pages... and by miss I mean don't miss.

My wife is my biggest fan... she helps me out with game prep, acts as my social secretary when it comes to coordinating game times and venues, and is one of my best players. She's pretty awesome.

We have one guy in my Sunday D&D group who apparently has to have a knock-down drag-out argument with his wife every weekend to get four hours a week away from his kids so he can go game. I feel sorry for the guy, but he's stuck to his guns... it's literally his only recreational outlet.

My ex-wife totally hated gamers, but I didn't know that when I first met her.  We met when I was on my long hiatus away from rpg games.  I didn't think much about rpg games during that time period.  At the time, I didn't think I was ever going to play any rpg games again.

We were married for almost ten years, until I got a call from a friend one day asking if I was interested in playing a one-shot 3.5E D&D game.  Everything very much went downhill after that, along with other unrelated issues.

thedungeondelver

Mrs. Thedungeondelver loves to game; most of my Dwarven Forge was gifts from her.  Her favorite classes are thieves, followed by fighters.  Doesn't like clerics or m-u's; keeping track of spells and components bores her :)

SO has currently a 17th Level Scout, and often earns "most valuable player" status as acknowledged by the other group members. Also, the player that can most easily live with defeat or failure, will also solve problems OTHER players have. Overall one of the deciding factors that gaming twice or at the very least once a week works so good.

Is able to be an awesome players in all games tried so far, but if given the choice, will vote for 3.5.

Pelorus

Hm, I don't know any female gamers any more. I don't think there are many of them in this region.

My other half tolerates my book-buying habits. I think she knows that if I liked football that it would be much worse. She doesn't mind having the gamers over -  even kitted out my "office" with a table and chairs for having the lads over. She is, despite not being a gamer, amazing.

tellius

My wife plays and loves the games as much I do. I am expressly not allowed to game without her or she gets jealous. I can't be happier that she enjoys the hobby so much :)

PoppySeed45

My wife is not a gamer but doesn't care that I game, and listens to my "my players are weird" stories. She knows I want to buy expensive gamebooks every so often, and she knows it makes me happy, so that's that. Anyway, she's a computer geek so she understands where I'm coming from at least (and is a bigger computer gamer than I am at times).

My wife will play board and card games, not so much RPGs.
