This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I am still not sure that he doesn't see the pretentiousness of his own statements but has to keep it up to maintain the online persona.

King of Old School

In the interest of clear credit, Pundit... Justin Achilli is not the one who presided over V:tM during its heyday of pretentiousness.  You're thinking of Rob Hatch.

Say whatever you want about Achilli's online persona as a monumental asshole (sound familiar?), but he's about as goth as you are.  He's also the developer who de-angsted the game in favour of a more gritty approach, making it a lot less about roleplaying-as-art and a lot more about roleplaying-as-game (albeit a game where the crunch more closely matched the fluff, something that didn't seem to concern his predecessors overmuch).  If he's guilty of anything, it's not listening to too much Bauhaus -- it's watching too much WWE and Minnesota Vikings football.

Likewise Geoff Grabowski, whose chief inspiration for Exalted and the way it works wasn't Vampire... it was Feng Shui, hardly a standardbearer of pretentious artsy-fartsydom.

You may fairly dislike these guys and their games (personally I don't rate Exalted very highly at all), but call a spade a spade.
