This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Yes Play:  Gygax and D&D, of course.  Palladium Fantasy with Kevin Siembieda.  Arduin with Dave Hargrave (rest his soul).  Uresia with S. John Ross.

No Play:  Probably some of the more obvious creeps people have mentioned.

LOVE To Play with them as GM: GURPS with Sean "KROMM" Punch, and maybe Steve Jackson himself as another player or the Gm. Kromm's style of GM-ing seems pretty close to mine..

Forward to Adventure! with Pundit as the GM (I get the feeling, that Pundit is possibly a fun GM - based on what his players have posted.)

LIKE to try with ME as GM: GURPS:TRAVELLER or Classic TRAVELLER with Loren K. Wiseman and Marc Miller.  Possibly also Christopher Thrash...he seems an alright guy.

NEVER want to play with the Author/Designer: RIFTS with Kevin Siembieda, D&D with Gary Gygax, (Tho with Dave Arneson it might be alright), ANYTHING Forge-related with Edwards or Vincent Baker. Any of the WORLD OF DARKNESS games.

Let's see - for more classic games, I'd go with Top Secret/SI with Douglas Niles, AD&D with Zeb Cook, and/or TMNT with Erick Wujcik.  For newer games, I wouldn't mind trying out In Harm's Way or Cold Space with Clash.
Now Prepping: One-shot adventures for Coriolis, RuneQuest (classic), Numenera, 7th Sea 2nd edition, and Adventures in Middle-Earth.

Recently Ended: Palladium Fantasy - Warlords of the Wastelands: A fantasy campaign beginning in the Baalgor Wastelands, where characters emerge from the oppressive kingdom of the giants. Read about it here.

Oooh! TMNT with Wujcik would blow my mind! :D

I'd run either game for you anytime, jgants!

YES:
  • D&D with Gygax or Arneson - just to see how they see the game.  I might even go to that Lake Geneva convention as it's only about an hour and a half from my house.
  • Amber - dead on.  I bought it way back when, read the hell out of it, read the books - and never got to play. And to do it with Mr. Wujcik would be a privilege.
  • I've played Roma Imperious with the Author; I'd like to try some of his other games with him. Same with Clash.  I think if I'm lucky enough to go to GenCon, and I get the condo, I'll offer to host (and hoist) a few rounds with the authors...
  • I'd like to give a shout out to d4-d4 with Kyle – not just to see how he games, but to see how those rules work in action.
  • And last, it seems like a kiss-ass, but it would be interesting to play FtA with Pundito.
NO:
I'm going to leave this one as I'm pretty clear about my tastes – and as much as I might disagree with someone's philosophy and/or the delivery thereof, I'd probably try just about any game within reason.

One of the things I've always liked about this place is that the authors that are here are not dogmatic pretentious gits (about their games) but friendly and accessible even when expressing strong opinions.  And I always feel as if I'm likely to play in one of their games with them in the next few months.

I would like to play with
Palladium Fantasy w/ Kevin Siembieda (Though I have issues with how he runs his company. I think he a is a great idea man and old school gamer of the highest caliber)
GURPS Mecha/BESM (Mecha) David Pulver (Ive really enjoyd some of the books hes written.)
After the Bomb w/ Erick Wujcik (I love the vast majority of Ericks work. And After the bomb is my favorite of his.)
D&D w/ Gary Gygax (Do I really Need to explain?)

As for those I would not play with
Any White Wolf Game, by any author. (I'm pretty sure I would hear, thats not how your supposed to play my game.)
Cyberpunk 2020 w/ Mike Pondsmith (Or what ever the hell the new one is called. I dont like some of his new ideas. And again I think I would hear thats not how its supposed to be played. To say all this pains me. CP2020, was one of my absolute fovorites back in the day)

Y'know, guys, I DO run games over IRC. Been doing it for years. We could do that any time.

Quote from: jrientsWhatever Arneson calls his game with Arneson.

I've been lucky enough to do this a few times, and it's as fun as you'd think it would be, in a wacky sort of way.  I don't think it's the kind of fare I would like in a campaign game, though.

My choice of game to play with the designer would be something with Jonathan Tweet.  Probably Ars Magica.

Brantai

I played a Burning Wheel demo with Luke Crane once at Gencon - I really wish I could play through a full game with him.
Arcana Unearthed (or even D&D 3) with Monte Cooke would probably be great times.
I'm not sure it would actually count as a roleplaying game, but Grontar: The Frutang with Justin Achilli would probably be a memorable event, at least.

On the other side, I don't think I'd enjoy a game of D&D run by Gygax, and D&D run by Skip Williams would be downright odious.

Koltar

Just remembered - I HAVE played in a game run by a guy that wrote adventures for a game company.

Not quite the same thing , but prettty close.

Back in the '80s, TWO of the guys that wrote adventures for FASA's STAR TREK:RPG lived locally.

One of them, I let sit in and GM my usual group. I just ran one of the crewmember NPCs as "my character".

 BIG Mistake.

The guy could maybe write adventures well enough to get paid for them - but he could not keep a game moving and interesting as a GM. He had NO sense of pacing or timing.

What should have been only 1 or 2 nights started to turn into 3 or 4 - and my usual players got uncomfortable and wanted me back as GM. Plus his NPCs  that were both adversaries or potential allies for the players - bored my group of friends.
I had 5 to 7 usual players back then , ranging in age from 22 yrs old to around 48 years old. Average age of the group was around 27 or 28.

Oh good one.  I'd be down for that game.  You can too, if you go to Corn on the Cob Con.

I'd like to play Burning Empires with Luke Crane, just because I don't think I'll ever have the cycles and/or brain cells to really get the rules down properly. I also hear that he is a pretty high-energy GM, which I like.

Koltar, I've played in a campaign run by a guy who is currently playing in Kromm's campaign (and has been playing with him for something like 9 years so far).  It's one step removed, but I feel some of the GURPS Line Editor awesomeness trickles down.  Unfortunately, Kromm feels that long campaigns are his forte, so he won't run anything at our local con, but he always comes, does a panel and just hangs out and chats with anyone. That guy does know his gaming, that's for sure.

The deal with Kromm is that when I first got on the SJG forums his answers to many things paralelled what I thought as a GM.

Then I read what he said about his own longterm group. Themn, started using somethings he did with his...with my group.

I realized that I wasn't so much copying or modeling my GM-style on his- it was more that we just have similiar styles, thats all. The big difference is that he put his stuff down in writing and I hadn't done that.

IF i lived in Quebec , I think I'd be pretty happy being a player or sometimes player in his campaign.

I'll play pretty much any game with any designer. I might get up and walk out halfway through if the game takes a turn I don't want, but I'll try it out.

If I had to choose though, I'd go with Gygax and AD&D 1e, despite knowing that I'll most likely be dead several times over within the first hour because I've grown soft and weak in The New World. Second (but equal) is Amber with Erick Wucjik, despite my fears that if he GMs it as well as he wrote it I'll be put to shame and leave with my Gamemaster balls shrunk way up, but my idea bucket overflowing. Third (and not quite equal) is any Monte Cooke game. From his works and his editorials it sounds like he's someone I'd dig gaming with.

Wow, good topic!  This is like a nice Sorbet after the latest ones! :D

Hrmm...ok, I'd have to go for playing Risus with S. John Ross, and Bunnies & Burrows with Steffan O'Sullivan.

1st Ed. D&D with any of the old-guard TSR guys would be cool, too.

I couldn't possibly play Risus with SJohn. At my age I'd probably have a heart attack from laughing so much...
