This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

RPG Campaigns with RPG Authors

Which RPG would you like to play a game of with the actual author of said game acting as GM? Which game (that you'd otherwise play) would you never want to run under the author?

For me, the first question is dead easy: Amber with Erick Wujcik.

The second took me a bit to think up, but then it came to me; True20 with Steve Kenson.

I'd be interested in at least trying Sorceror, but I don't think I'd ever want to play it with Ron Edwards.

On the first question: Pendragon / HeroQuest / RuneQuest with Greg Stafford. Failing that, CoC with Sandy Petersen or Unknown Armies / DG with John Tynes.

Don't have answers for the second question, really.
My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

Skyrock

The first one is difficult... CoC under Sandy Petersen or Shadowrun under Nigel Findley (if he still would be living) would be interesting for sure.
Sorcerer under Ron Edwards could be interesting too, although mostly out of curiosity what he makes out of this vaguely described game.

The third one is more difficult... Definitively not Shadowrun under Steve Kenson, if this turns out like his novels.

I'm unsure into which category I should pack CP2020 under Mike Pondsmith. It would be interesting for sure, but on the other hand he is rumored to have quite a PC-squashing killer GM stance on the table.
Same goes for Hardwired under Walter Jon Williams.

The Great Pendragon Campaign, with Stafford running. A|State with Malcolm Craig. Unknown Armies or REIGN with Greg Stolze. Ars Magica with John Tweet. Dying Earth with Robin Laws. Aces and Eights with the dudes from Kenzer & Co. Those are the ones which jump out at me right now.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

Caesar Slaad

I've already ran a Spycraft 2.0 game for Scott Gearin and Alex Flagg, 2 of the 3 designers. I'd like to run or play in a game with Patrick Kapera, the other designer.
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

HeroQuest Glorantha with Greg Stafford, because it's his world and he ought to be good at it.

Sorcerer with Ron Edwards, because he talks himself up pretty well and I'd like to see for myself.

Forward to Adventure! by the RPG Poobutt, for similar reasons.

When you draw attention to the fact that the people are the game authors, then the games that leap to mind are the ones where I have some sense that there is some way to make them sing, but I've never quite found it.  Presumably watching the author in action would help me get a sense for how it works.  Nobilis with R. Sean Borgstrom, for instance.  Everway with Jonathon Tweet.  That kind of thing.

But, also, my experience is that a lot of authors are also really good gamers, so I'd be pretty happy with a campaign in most anything, because it's a game with good gamers.  I'd be stoked to play D&D with Gygax for instance ... not because I think it would help me to "figure out" D&D, but because I expect he's damn good fun around the gaming table.

Sorta surprised that last one hasn't gotten more interest, honestly.

I don't know anyone who has written a game I'd like to run a game with. To answer the second question, if the conduct or posts of the people who write games here and elsewhere is the norm I hope I never actually know anyone who designs a game-you're all assholes of the highest order. :)

Hackmaster

D&D Forgotten Realms with Ed Greenwood (I know, a setting more than a system). I've heard this guy do some interviews and he really sounds like one of the most fun DMs ever.

For the most part, there aren't many games that I can think of that I can see the writer doing a better job GMing than me. (Not that I'm the greatest GM, but I know what I like better than they do).

Still, of all the games I've played or wanted to play, the coolest one that never quite clicked was Cyberpunk. I think it was a great game, but never got the right group/GM together. The new edition seems kind of silly, but I bet if Mike ran it for me, he would make it pretty awesome.

Maybe I could get Clash to run Starcluster2 for me, I still don't quite get meta-skills. :p

Serenity with both MW and Jamie Chambers. That way, whenever I wanted to do anything, I could ask them "How does that work?", immediately followed by "Oh, really, where does it say that in the book?"

Play with author: D&D with Gygax.  Whatever Arneson calls his game with Arneson.  Encounter Critical with S. John Ross.  Low Life with Andy Hopp.

Never play with author: My gut tells me that playing Rolemaster/Spacemaster/MERP with the folks responsible for that system would quite possibly annoy the crap out of me.

Hi GO!

In (the theoretical) StarCluster 3 there will be no metaskills! For playtesters I apparently got  - purely by chance - the only people in the world who can think of metaskills without their brains cramping up! They loved them. No one else understands them. I now think the concept can be handled better as straight bonuses. :D

I want to play Shebang! with Johnny Wannabe (Rich Parkinson) and FtA! with Pundie. That would rock!

Once played in this Mythus game Gygax ran at GenCon in '93. Thoroughly derailed his plot too. :)

Play under? John Wick running Legend of the Five Rings. Gygax running Lejendary Adventures. Pundit running Forward to Adventure!

No way Jose? Vincent Baker running Poison'd. I'd mention the guy who designed FATAL, but my feeble mind has thankfully forgotten who that jerk is. (And don't anybody remind me.)
