This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[Robotech] What Do You Want?

Now that Palladium's announced they are bringing back Robotech, what would you like to see them do?  Obviously, I'm looking for practical bits in here, so you wags with your "give it to someone else" comments need not apply, eh? :D

System-wise, what could they do for you?  Lower MDC a bit, perhaps?  Do you want one big book?  Art direction--what would you want to see?

Here's your thread to make suggestions for Robotech!

Said this in the other Palladium thread:

QuoteIf I'm allowed to hope for a moment, there is a part of me that would be happy if they were willing to change Robotech to run faster in combat. They can keep all of the other chunky bits, just lower the MD some. From what I've seen of Robotech and Macross (more the latter I confess), they don't really dwell on long called shot combats. It's fast, furious, and swimming with mini missiles. They should put a spotlight on that.
Running: Dogs of WAR - Beer & Pretzels & Bullets
Planning to Run: Godbound or Stars Without Number
Playing: Star Wars D20 Rev.

A lack of moderation doesn\'t mean saying every asshole thing that pops into your head.

They'd be smart to make combat run faster...   They won't do it, but all the mechs need to be redone.  The point values are all out of wack.

I haven't seen Shadow Chronicles -- but I'd like to see the carriers and jets from Macross Zero in the book.

arminius

Unlikely: Shadow Chronicles is Harmony Gold, ergo they can license it to Palladium. The only parts of Macross that HG can touch are the original series and the original movie, because Tatsunoko Productions had rights to those works. Likewise Mospeada and Southern Cross are Harmony Gold through Tatsunoko. Everything else Macross requires IP rights through Big West.

Macross II fits in strangely; Palladium did some books for it, using the Robotech system essentially, but the license came through the North American distributor of the anime, not Harmony Gold, who in turn got the rights from Big West.

In short I do not believe that any of the Macross material outside of the original series and movies will ever be incorporated into the Robotech game.

RPGPundit

I just hope that it manages to somehow present new material that wasn't in the old RPG books, while still staying true to the original Robotech feel.

Its already been said, but the ability to blow up a Zentradi pod with only one or two missiles, or even just a bit of gunfire, would be good.

Allow every O.C.C. can pilot some sort of mecha.  Like they did with Southern Cross, Invid Invasion and The Sentinels.

Sort of related to that, I would like the book to look like it was made in 2007 and not 1987, and be true to the feel of the anime.  The layout should not really resemble any of Palladium's other books at all.

Now, everything Kevin has said so far would seem to support that idea (what with the "Manga" format and all).  But I'll believe its not a cut/paste job when I see it.

Another thing is that it should use a really stripped-down version of the rules.  Something like System Failure did.  What I don't want to see is it turned into "Rifts Dimension Book 14: Robotech" where books are dozens of OCCs (each with dozens of skills), hundreds of gun/missile stats, all kinds of special case rules, etc.
Now Prepping: One-shot adventures for Coriolis, RuneQuest (classic), Numenera, 7th Sea 2nd edition, and Adventures in Middle-Earth.

Recently Ended: Palladium Fantasy - Warlords of the Wastelands: A fantasy campaign beginning in the Baalgor Wastelands, where characters emerge from the oppressive kingdom of the giants. Read about it here.

I'd like to see a quicker playing version of the game. Also, to really put palladium on the map, I'd like to see a full color hardcover at about 250-300 pages.

Ian Absentia

Echoing most people's sympathies, faster, smoother play.

Also -- and this could prove controversial -- more emphasis on characters and less on mecha.  Make the game more like the anime on which it was based, which had plenty of both.

Someone other than Kevin to design, edit and write the damned thing.  If Kevin is on this, expect nothing good to come of it.

I've gotta say, it was Palladium's mishandling of Robotech back when it first came out and Battletech's crappy role-playing rules that caused most of my High School gaming group to play Mekton 2 instead.

Its not what you want to hear, but I'd like to see Robotech be done so that it more closely resembles Mekton style play.
"Meh."

I think this could be an excellent opportunity for the Palladium staff to re-boot the system for the way they're producing RPGs.  Robotech and TMNT were the two titles that introduced me to Palladium and it would be nice of them to take this opportunity to reach a larger audience.  I want a softback full glossy paper using modern technology to blend images from the movie along with the text.  I want them to implement aspects of the Palladium system around the Robotech genre.  When I pick it up, I want to be wowed that Palladium produced the book.  I don't want Macross with different pictures.

Well as much as I would like to see a new or revised combat system. Or game system for that matter. I dont see it happening. Even if someone else wrote it. Kevin would have to rewrite it. Just the way he is. It seems like the last book I bought. (Rifts Machinations of Doom) The quality of paper it was printed on wasnt as good as in past books. In the past pally has had a history of putting out quality softcovers. I hope Hades was of higher quality. So I worry aboutthe quality of the new robotech books.
That all being said. I have been a pally fan for a long time. If the rumors of a Robotech live action movie are true. This could be the perfect thing for Pally. I would think it would helps sales and etc. I am interested to see this manga look for the book as well. As someone else said, I hope its not the pally standard cut and paste.

So long as Kevin Siembieda runs Palladium Books, sweet fuck-all will change and Palladium's products will continue to be single nuggets of awesome drowned in a great pile of suck.
