This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Ever go "light" and find yourself flopping back to "medium or heavy?"

Spike

For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

I agree.

That is also my way of looking at things.

To me, the rules are a sort of common agreement about how things should work, but that doesn't mean you have to rigorously apply them to every and all situations.

HERO System has rules for knock-back, but I don't bother with rolling for knockback when a pixie punches a storm giant. HERO also has endurance rules, yet I don't bother with tracking END most of the time, unless the characters are involved in a situation where their stamina is really in question.

Still, the rules are still there if they are needed.

Kinetic

I prefer a rules-medium sort of game.  I came from Hero to Savage Worlds and found that Savage Worlds has the right amount of crunch for me.  Mechanics I prefer to be fairly simple but I like it when the characters have enough options to make sure they are unique and the advancement scheme shouldn't slow things down.

Answering the Op:

Not really. I pick the game rules based on what I want out of it, if it is too heavy I may adjust to lighter systems but I've never gone back the otherway.

I gave True20 a try, but didn't like it. I got hung up on the wealth mechanic, just didn't feel right. The rest of True20 seems great in concept but just felt flat when played.
"Meh."

I loved True20, converted a Basic D&D game over to it--I may go back to D&D, but not for any fault of True20.

Wealth mechanic isn't something I use often. I usually assume PC's have reasonable gear for their jobs, anything else will be an adventure getting..:D

I was trying to get away from the bean-counting in the games and wanted to try True20 for the Wealth mechanic, but when it came to treasure and other rewards my Players really liked seeing the numbers increase. I found it easier for adjucating things from the other side of the GMs screen.
