This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Oh.  Count me out then as well, for the same reasons as zomben.

No problem, not everyone like the Mongoose system.

It's more the politics of the Mongoose RQ that rankles me.  My dislike of the system is secondary.

I'll have to sound like zomben's echo again.  It's not the system.  The system is, at least at heart, BRP.  I love BRP.  Therefore, at least at heart, I love the system.  It's the association with Mongoose and their business practices to which I object.  And I think that is a very real problem.

Yup.  No offense, but I'd hunt around for an old copy of "Worlds Beyond" before I'd buy a BRP-SciFi game using the Mongoose RQ OGL.  I'm sure your game is going to be fab, but I'll never know because I won't buy anything which supports MRQ.

Roger Calver

As I said no problems, we all have our own reasons for things.
Thanks anyway for showing interest.

You're certainly welcome, and I genuinely appreciate you coming around to help explain matters regarding Translight.

At the risk of beating a dead horse here, I ought to make it clear that what I find objectionable about Mongoose isn't so much the curious means by which they first obtained rights to the BRP system (which, yes, I still find objectionable), but rather the fact that they then turned around and issued it as an OGL system, blatantly yanking the rug out from under Chaosium.  Adding insult to injury, they've aggressively pursued the Eternal Champion license, which they intend to release using what amounts to the system that the Stormbringer game already has.  Clever, but dirty pool.

Hey, here's an idea.  If Chaosium releases their BRP/d100 system as an OGL, all you'd have to do is change the credits in the frontispiece to refer to Chaosium instead of Mongoose, and people like zomben and I would buy it. A cruel joke at the expense of Mongoose, but accurate.

I dont know about the Mongoose issue so I can say anything about it.
As to Chaosium's D100 system if it was an OGL then that would be interesting, have to keep an eye on their boards.

Vestinious - just an idle thought, but as a publisher, would it be worth it to you to spend a few hundred bucks on a BRP license, along the lines of the True20 license?

It seems to me, that there are a number of BRP diehards (like myself and Ian) who wouldn't buy your game if it was MRQ-OGL, but would be more than interested if it was a licensed BRP adaptation.

If Chaosium were to offer a license for BRP for a reasonable cost, would you be interested?

Roger Calver

Of course it wouldnt just be my decision to it but I would be interested to know more if such a thing was possible yes.
