Title: Reign
Post by: wlake.gmtn on March 27, 2021, 07:29:56 AM
Any thoughts on this RPG? I always thought that to mend the differences between what you want from a game and what you get out of it, companies are a good way to mend that difference. To me it's like having followers sorta, almost in reverse. Also the mechanics for height and weight are pretty interesting, as is the idea of a shadow-plant, any kind of fantasy setting like Jorune (which I never checked out). I'm a huge fan of Unknown Armies, but I feel like the new game is toned down a little much, but I could see people get up-in-arms about the content of 2E. It's got that Parental Advisory label.

Currently listening to: ambient

I love the system but disliked the setting in the original book, but by the time that I had come out I had already hacked the One Roll Engine for a bunch of different settings, so not liking the built-in was no biggie. Got my start with the system with Godlike and ran a long WWII campaign.

The whole thing is so modular that you can run it pretty much as you want.

Can you give me a rundown on the basics (or is there a freebie starter somewhere)?  Things like character creation, task resolution, damage handling?

I ended up selling the book on rpg.net but from what I recall I wouldn't mind having it back.  ;) The one roll engine is really cool. I'm a big fan of spheres for stats. I know Pundit doesn't like the WoD series (or at least the theory surrounding it) but this website tinymixtapes.com reminds me of WoD. I like d6 pools, and I have a sketch for a game which Reign kinda inspired. Task resolution is interesting from the standpoint of agent/reaction and by that I mean rolling for defense.

While i really like the games of Greg Stolze i have a hard time finding time these days to play them. Reign never particularly interested me because i just cant see myself spending time on it. Ill gladly read a review but thats it as far as ill go.
