(No offense intended to actual Savants)

Am I the only one that HATES (well...is iritated by) Player Characters that have stats of 20 and 8?

Oh look...a Warrior that can bench press a horse but can't tie his shoes.

Oh look...a Mage that has an IQ higher than a person can actually get.

Oh look...Another half orc monk with no intelligence or charisma.

Blah.

No, you're not.  I know it's all personal preference and stuff, but when I see a character with a 20 and an 8 that wasn't rolled that way?  I think munchkin.  There's nothing inherently wrong with having a high stat and a low stat, but those should be the exception rather than the rule.  The whole idea of a dump stat that you can manually manipulate (like in point buy systems) leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

I think such characters ar awesome when it's 3d6 down the line.
Yeah, but who gives a fuck? You? Jibba?

Well congrats. No one else gives a shit, so your arguments are a waste of breath.

Except for that 20. That means they cheated.

When it's rolled and random chance?  That can create some hella good gaming situations :)  I just weep for those players who if they ever roll a score that gets a penalty, they cry and throw away the character.  If it always happened to only you?  Yeah, do a reroll.  But cry just because you have a -1 to hit?  Grow some onions and deal with it.

But when it's point buy?  Get outta here munchkin.

One of my earliest characters was a first edition fighter who rolled 3d6 in order for his stats.

He had a 3 Dexterity.

So I made him a bowman :)

It was glorious!

Even funnier, that bowman with an 18 STR and no sense of humor about his archery skills. :)

Stats are rolled in my games so I don't get too many of those. That said, when they happen, and they do occasionally, I'm completely fine with them. Makes the character interesting when it's RPed.

The point-buy thing where everyone optimizes makes the characters all samey after a while. It gets old fast.

Archery with a 3 Dexterity:

Carefully attempt to draw an arrow.

Pick up the arrow when it slips from your fingers to the ground.

Repeat until an arrow is actually knocked.

Aim.

Let loose the arrow, and pray that there are more enemies in the area than allies.

Flee from your angry companions.

Put me in the anti-min/max camp.  I hate dipping, too.  Messes with my concept of the playing field.

I expect the 'badwrongfun' label to get tossed out here any second, because this is a commonly expected way to invalidate an individual's preference...  On the internet, at least.
