I wanna give this clone a spin. Does anyone have recommendations for 3rd party modules or adventurers that work well with ACKS? I just picked up the player's companion and also own the core rules.
Most of the B and X series modules should be a straight fit. I'm particularly fond of B4, B10 and X1. I've even considered using X1 as the launching point for a "New World" sort of game, which I feel dovetails neatly with the whole idea of bold, rakish adventurers going out into ancient ruins and monster-infested wilds in search of riches, and eventually rising to proeminence as agents of civilization.
Here's an idea I've just had. Take the X1 map, make it part of a continent rather than an island, then supplement it with a booming colonial capital near the coast (backdrop for B10) and a lost city far off in the jungles, or mountains, or desert (B4). Bam, instant campaign. You're welcome ;)
Here are the modules I've personally used/adapted for ACKS.
TSR Modules:
- In Search of the Unknown
- Keep on the Borderlands
- The Lost City
- The Isle of Dread
- Steading of the Hill Giant Chief
- Cities of Bone (from Al-Qadim)*
Judges Guild Modules:
- Caverns of Thracia*
One Page Dungeons:
- Ancient Academy
- Grey Goblin Warrens
- The Foetid Pit
- Serpent Temple Lost Tombs
- Fortress on the Ironflow River
- Valley of the Necromancer Kings*
- Trolls Will be Trolls
- Chantry of the Earth Flame
Basic Fantasy Role-Play Modules:
- Chaotic Caves
- Death Crypt of Khaldun
Pocket Full of Peril:
- Spider Riders of Pren
- Tomb of Ice
- Ruins of Rabon Nov Dranbon
*Required substantial work to adapt
Wow, awesome list. That's a whole campaign. Thanks!
No problem. Thanks for checking out ACKS!
Yeah, that's the beauty of the OSR; pretty much any D&D module or OSR adventure works with any OSR game, with a bit of setting-tweaking.
